This beautifully appointed Chimaera is offered for sale by HPC Classics as one of the best there is. Having had a full restoration by a TVR specialist to a better than factory standard, it’s clear to see how well it has been loved and it could be as close to a brand-new Chimaera as you’re ever likely to see.
As with all TVR’s, buying on condition is key & with this particular car, you’d be very hard pushed to better it. With sought after optional power assisted steering, the car is a breeze to drive in all conditions. Being a later model, it has the serpentine engine, which is cross bolted and has a better reputation than the earlier units. As a package the later cars are slightly more refined and are somewhat better resolved as a product, which is evident when entering the cabin.
The interior, boot and engine bay all show just how well this car has been cared for, no expense spared, garaged and loved. In order to present so well, the car has had a full body-off restoration, so underneath is bright white, an upgraded full leather interior, an engine that’s rebuilt, fresh suspension and even Lupo lights at the front, meaning that you can see well in the dark too.
With Peter Wheeler being a tall man, this era of TVR were designed to give plenty of cabin space for even the loftiest of occupant. With massive boot space, Chimaeras make for an ideal weekend getaway car. With fabulous performance, comfort, noise and handling, they really do tick all of the boxes!

The paintwork is in great overall condition with minimal marks on the body for the cars age, the interior is incredible shape, as near to immaculate as you’ll find, having fresh leather throughout and new carpets. Mechanically the car performs perfectly, cooling as it should and riding beautifully on the rebuilt chassis and suspension. The overall condition is testament to the way in which the car has been looked after throughout its life.
In recent years it has had a lot of love, with all new wishbones, drop links, ball joints, discs, callipers and pads all round, ACT silicone coolant hoses, re-painted rocker covers, alloy radiator and twin fans to name but a few items already taken care of. The history file also backs up the incredible care lavished on the car, with a full photographic record of the car’s restoration. Not a single stone was left unturned, even an updated Thatcham approved alarm system was fitted, so this isn’t a half-hearted attempt, this is perfection! It comes supplied with two sets of keys, HPI clear, a fresh MOT & service, an upgraded leather history file to match the interior of the car.
Whether you’re considering your first or fifteenth TVR, you simply can’t go wrong with a well-cared for 400. All of the noises they are so renowned for, space and comfort and plenty of power to enjoy.
