Description

With us now at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this truly outstanding 1970 (H) MGB GT, a car that quite simply stands apart from the crowd and without question one of the cleanest GT’s we have had the pleasure of offering for sale in many years.

Finished in beautiful Alpine White, the paintwork is exceptional and immediately makes an impression upon inspection. The bodywork is remarkable throughout, displaying a deep shine along with crisp wing seams, excellent sills and corrosion-prone areas that present exactly as you would hope to find on a properly cared for example. Having undertaken a detailed inspection, we found nothing to fault, panel gaps to the doors, bonnet and boot are all of an excellent standard, while the doors close with that reassuring solidity which speaks volumes about the quality of the restoration work carried out over the years.

The exterior is further enhanced by the original pressed steel road wheels which have been professionally refurbished and retain the correct period chrome centre caps and matching trims. The tyres are all in excellent condition, while the chrome work throughout presents beautifully.

Inside, the car continues to impress to the same high standards. The original weave style seats are in excellent condition and are complemented by what appear to be virtually unworn quality carpets together with excellent black vinyl trim throughout. A Moto-Lita wood and chrome steering wheel adds a tasteful sporting touch to the interior, while a period radio discreetly upgraded with USB functionality provides modern convenience without spoiling the classic feel of the car. A particularly lovely original detail is the ‘T Shipside Ltd’ rear window sticker which we believe relates to the British Leyland main dealer in Nottingham that originally supplied the car new.

Under the bonnet sits the dependable 1. 8 litre lead free four-cylinder petrol engine, paired to a four speed manual gearbox complete with fully functioning overdrive on both 3rd and 4th gears. The presentation of the engine bay mirrors the standard of the exterior and clearly demonstrates the quality of the restoration work undertaken and subsequent care the car has received. Useful upgrades include the addition of an additional cooling fan, braided fuel hoses and the oil cooler all very good additions.

Accompanying the car is a very impressive history file containing extensive older MOT certificates dating back to 1987 together with invoices and receipts from the same period onwards. The file documents restoration work, paintwork and maintenance over many years and also includes a full list of previous owners, offering a rare and reassuring level of provenance that is seldom found to this extent today.

This very well maintained MGB GT offers the next owner an outstanding example with excellent provenance, superb presentation and driving manners to match. It is a car ready to be enjoyed immediately and one that would comfortably grace any enthusiast collection.
