Singer 11 Fluidrive.
Registered to 1st owner 5th December 1934.
& with its original Reg. Number.

This is a very special and rare car, probably 1 of only 3 left.
At the time, Singer described this model as the best car they had built.
This pristine example of British engineering really has to be seen and driven to fully appreciate how advanced Singer cars were in the 1930’s.
It has a 1394cc single overhead camshaft, 3 bearing crankshaft engine with a fully pressurised and filtered lubrication system.
It develops its maximum power at a heady (for the time) 4, 000 RPM.
This unit has been fully rebuilt and has only covered about 2000 miles since then. It sounds and feels very healthy and shows good and steady oil pressure. The hand book quotes top speed as 65. 2 mph!
The transmission is a fascinating combination of a fluid flywheel, conventional clutch, 4 speed crash gear box with a free wheel and the usual propeller shaft and final drive. The differential has recently been fitted with new bearings and is fitted with the more modern neoprene oil seals.
The clutch is only used to select a gear prior to moving off, from then on all driving gear changes and stops at junctions can be clutchless.
The brakes are Lockhead hydraulic drums front and rear.
The last mechanical feature worth mentioning is the front suspension, it is an independent system in the Du Bonnett style incorporating hydraulic shock absorbers. The rear shock absorbers are also hydraulic.
It is fitted with nearly new period Avon cross ply tyres.
The electrical system is 12 volt + earth.
The bodywork is a credit to the previous owner who must have been a master of coachwork and upholstery. The seating has been rebuilt using real red leather. The new red carpets are leather bound. The woodwork and roof lining are spotless. The opening roof and windscreen both operate correctly.
Everything on the car works as intended when the car was built, even the clock (8 day wind up) keeps very good time. The speedometer is chronometric i. e. the needle moves in 1 mph increments and is very accurate.
There are some very slight cracks in the exterior black paintwork caused I suspect by movement in the newly made and fitted timber body and door frames.
I have a thick folder of paperwork, including the original hand book, buff logbook, MOT’s, and invoices totalling in excess of £6, 000 for bodywork materials and the engine rebuild.
The car has a currant MOT to April 2009 and is taxed (free of course)
Fully comprehensive insurance cost me a few pence short of £100 / annum.
