Description

After the clearance of a yard I have a surplus of Invalid Carriages, more than can be included in my collection.

several Invacar Mk 12 Type E, for restoration. This is one of the more successful designs by Bert Greeves, which feature the Villiers 11E 197cc engine. The engine rides on the rear of a tube chassis carrying outriggers supporting a platform floor in steel. The three main GRP mouldings bolt to this, forming a strong body-shell. Mechanically things are very simple, its all off the shelf parts bin stuff. I doubt even now the brakes would cost more that £100 to restore, for instance. Villiers Services still rebuild engines out of stock.
The controls on these are to on a box to the left of the single seat, with a tiller of controls coming across. Effectively bike based, with levers and switchgear to the left. Electric start with 4 gears, reverse. Again nothing excessively complicated, just slightly cramped for access.

These cars come complete, as I have a good amount of spare parts, some being the inaugural Invalid Carriage Register stock. So the prime task is to restore the door, always a weak spot on this design. Each one has a dating letter ready for a Registration Application to DVLA. Please remember that DVLA will not process an application until the car is nigh on ready for MOT, so I cannot go further. These vehicles are now free to be legally owned and normally fall into the same category as a Reliant. The Government pursued a positive scrappage policy until they agreed those left were Historic Vehicles, so these vehicles are very rare. Restored they create great interest, as they carry much social history with them, in the way we treated disability. Older folk will remember them lined up on the touch line at football matches. These are more than cars, and you will find the public will besiege you at shows.

There is one Type 70, Steyr Puch powered automatic Carriage, not pictured. These have become the most desirable of the more available vehicles. This one is running and it can retain its original registration, It used to live in Pill, Bristol. But needs some major GRP bodywork restoration. Again, save body issues, this car is complete for parts, indeed it has a few spares with it.

The cars are offered for £1, 450 each. All rolling, will fit in a large van. Multiple purchase deal welcome.
