Here we have a 1996 Daihatsu Midget II pick up.
We hand picked this vehicle from Japan ourselves and it arrived in the UK at the start of the summer.
It is now registered on a 1996/ N plate and is MOT'd to May 2018 without advisories.
It is great fun to drive and attracts a lot of positive attention, I will even go as far to say that in terms of how a car fulfills its design brief and intended purpose the Midget II is one of the best cars I have ever driven!
The Midget II replaced the original three wheel Midget that starred in a chase scene in one of the James Bond films.
As a Japanese Domestic Market Kei Class vehicle it is powered by a 32bhp 660cc 3 cylinder petrol engine with a 4 speed manual transmission and as such is a single seat vehicle; the automatic version has a tiny second seat where the manual gearlever would be. The Midget is rear wheel drive and the engine is mid mounted underneath the drivers seat. The weight is just over half a ton at 550kgs unladen and the vehicle has a 150kg load capacity.
The specification includes optional Air-Con (ice cold, not all Midgets had it and they get very hot inside without), heater, digital clock, 2 speed wipers, 10" steel wheels. It comes complete with its jack, spare wheel and toolroll. Two keys are present and the tyres are 4 matching Bridgestone.
The mileage is just 19500 kms which equates to just 12000 miles! The condition is excellent with no rot and all rubber seals are in good condition. It drives exactly how it should do with a surprising amount of torque from its small engine.
I have just had the cambelt & tensioner replaced along with he belts for a/ c and alternator. Genuine Daihatsu parts were sourced from Japan for this. A rear foglight has also been fitted along with the side lights being adapted for UK use.
These are ideal for urban use or on a large country estate and make an excellent promotional vehicle.
