Description
Produced in small numbers between 1986 and 1989 by Harold Dermott and his team at Midas Cars Ltd, very few of these remain. Examples such as this are seldom offered for sale.
Based on a precision composite racing monocoque, developed with the help of Brabham Formula One designer Gordon Murray and styled by Richard Oakes M Des RCA, it is lightweight, compact, immensely rigid, and is fitted with a race developed ground effect under-tray.
This early example comes with the original detailed manufacturers spec. and bill of sale for the comprehensive Superkit, plus 1380cc Avonbar 90-96bhp high performance engine package, all originally supplied in July 1986 to its first owner in Southampton. It is accompanied by the original Midas Gold assembly guide and a comprehensive history file and vaious other related documents.
I purchased the car in 2004 and enjoyed driving it. In 2005 a complete engine and gearbox rebuild was carried out by Avonbar Racing, the original engine suppliers (detailed specification and bills provided). This included 1380cc capacity, fully balanced rotating parts, Powermax pistons, Piper fast road camshaft, heavy duty bearings, duplex timing chain, Longman big valve lead-free head, lightened flywheel etc.
Due to personal circumstances, the vehicle was then garaged and has not been on the road since. It is properly registered and is currently recorded on SORN.
The car will require some general light re-commissioning (reflected in realistic asking price). It is complete, structurally very sound, undamaged, mechanically good and comes with many new replacement parts. The new engine will also need carefully running-in.
The original black gelcoat finish has some scratches and minor blemishes. The original interior finishes could also benefit from sympathetic renovation.
