For sale is my early porsche 911/ 912 replica kitcar, nicknamed the "Nein12". Found in 2013 as a failed project as a typical Covin impact bumper 930 replica (big flared arches, whale tail etc). It had been off the road for a number of years, built on a shortened beetle floorpan (so basically the same as a Chesil 356 replica)and fitted with standard beetle running gear. The project had stalled as the previous owner had fitted a known 1. 6 cvh EFI engine to replace the failed 1500 beetle engine then struggled to understand basic vehicle wiring.
Since 2013, i've wired up and plumbed in the engine with lots of new parts - it runs fine producing circa 100bhp mated to the beetle 1500 gearbox. Brakes and suspension have all been over hauled and the chassis is sound. The majority of my time has been to convert the car from the later impact bumper style 911 to the earlier (and much prettier) "longnose narrowbody" design of 60's 911/ 912. Covin only built impact bumper 911 replicas so an early 60's style is a one-off.
My priorities need to focus just on my other classic car so this Covin is up for sale. It has 12 months fresh MOT (April17) but should be considered as an ongoing project. The doors and the genuine 911 chrome on brass door frames need further work to be fitted correctly, the interior needs to be trimmed and is currently painted satin black to seal the GRP. Its value is equated to equivalent chesil 356 coupe kits, 2 of which sold recently on ebay for £10. 5k and £13. 5k, so i've priced this accordingly( as a benchmark, speedster clinic 356 coupe kits without shortened chassis and unregistered start at £5995).
This covin is correctly registered on the V5 (in my name) as a 'vw-porsche kit', so no worries about IVA tests.
60's 912's go for £30k now and rotten projects for £6k plus resto costs. If you just want the the looks, or fancy a slammed 'porsche' then this is the ideal car for you. Vehicle weight is approx 850kg so lighter than a beetle and 911/ 912. Wheelbase is between a SWB and LWB 911.
