1964 MK3 Triumph TRW 500 cc SV Twin Ex British Military The Triumph TRW was introduced in 1948 and was only supplied to the Military , Army (few) , RAF (mainly) , Navy , Forestry commission etc . The bulk were exported to Commonwealth countries such as Canada , Australia and South Africa . Sources say up to 16, 000 were produced but survivors around the World are know in the hundreds and as little as 50 odd of these are in the UK . Conceived in the late 1930s by "Edward Turner" and "Burt Hopwood" but never making into production in time for WW2 . Triumph worked hard to secure contracts with the government for the TRW 500 and succeeded . Some examples remained in service as late as 1981 ! Never offered to the general population direct from main agents or factory but many TRW, s were released as surplus and found welcome homes in "Cive Street" . Of its time it was a very good bike being quite a civilized mount . The popularity of Military motorcycles goes from strength to strength and I am pleased to offer this excellent and very original Triumph TRW 500 SV . Showing a mileage of 5, 317 which I believe may be correct . Fueled by the original Solex carburetor this 500 cc SV Twin sounds great once fired into life . A ride up the road confirms the clutch to work well and the gearbox is smooth . We are going to service the TRW prior to sale and we can arrange delivery . Accompanying the Triumph TRW are a number of show awards
