This charming little roadster has been with the same owner for the past 33 years. Being very meticulous in his approach to maintenance, the Spitfire has been maintained by professionals and is in excellent mechanical condition. With a fully documented service history, a clean body and a refurbished interior, this car is a pleasant and reliable travel companion.
Having left the factory in white paint, the owner had it professionally resprayed in gunmetal grey early on (an original British Leyland colour). The paint job is shiny and very presentable to this day, although a few minor imperfections have started to occur. The body has received a thorough rust prevention treatment and is still in solid condition. Light bubbling just below the left hand corner of the windscreen seal is the most serious issue that should be adressed at some point in the future.
Technically, a lot of work has been done to keep this car healthy and in tune. The large file of specialist invoices include a complete engine rebuild in 1994 at 116. 138 km, rebuilt carburettors, a stainless steel GT6 exhaust damper and a new gearbox in 1992 at 106. 560 km. The car has covered 144. 174 km so far. It runs and drives perfectly well and has no deferred maintenance (the front anti-roll bar rubbers could be replaced).
The interior has received new seat cushions, seat covers, door panels and a carpet set in 2009 and is still in immaculate condition. The soft top is in good condition. A soft top cover is included. No tonneau cover. The Moto Lita steering wheel combines tastefully with the wooden dashboard and the matching gear lever knob. The wheels have been upgraded to period correct chrome plated rims with wider 185/ 70/ 13 tyres. Combined with the gunmetal paint, they give this Spitfire a bespoke and more mature look than its factory original brothers.
