Well, here's an extremely rare bird. A Hillman Minx convertible. It may seem strange to see a 2-door Minx but just how beautiful are those body lines when a 2-door model comes as a drop head. The Sunbeam Rapier maybe considered itself to be the top of the tree when it came to these "Audax" models, but this Minx 1500 is as pretty as any 4-seater 1960s drop head that you may come across. The baby blue suits the car superbly. She has just 2 previous keepers according to the V5 and she has covered just 66, 000 miles whish is probably correct. She drives well and seems healthy. The convertible Minx was built with an enormous cruciform fashioned into the monocoque underside in order to give the shell that extra strength. All looks strong in that department. Inevitably she has seen welding repairs in her time but she appears to be strong. She is going out exactly as she came into me as I am pushed for space - yet again! - and those of you who either know me or follow my adverts will know that I prefer to work on tiny margins, keep my prices down and let the next owner tinker, play, improve and enjoy. Her last MoT expired in October 2016 and for all I know she would go straight through another test now. But in a few weeks' time, the new 40-year roll-on MoT rule kicks in and therefore, as of May this year, all vehicles pre-1978 are MoT exempt. There are some minor body and paint defects which are to be expected of such a rare bird which will be 57-years-old this very month. Also while in the keep of her previous owner, her front nearside wheel arch was scraped while moving the car in and out of the garage where she was stored. The paint was scratched off to reveal bare, but clean metal. This is not a rusty or rotten arch and with the right colour match, could be put right on a Sunday morning. Her hood by the way is excellent and shows no damage. The blue interior, likewise, is in superb order. The rear windows, as many of you will be aware, wind down to reveal a pillarless drop head. However, while the offside window does just that, the nearside appears to be stuck and I have no intention of forcing it.
Please bear in mind that all my classic cars are the equivalent of motoring antiques. They will have had work and doubtless the majority of them will need more in the future. Context is all. They cannot be compared to the six-month old SUV you might pull up in. This Minx for example will soon be 60-years-old. They need loving homes were time can be lavished on them. They represent our British motoring heritage and, as such, deserve to live out their days in comfort and style. In return they will repay you with tons of smiles to the gallon.
