The Appeal
To this day, the DS is a deeply impressive sort of car. Born from an age of rapid development, these space-age vehicles were proof-positive that Citroën were the boundary pushers, loading the car with an advanced hydropneumatic suspension, disc brakes and a unique, aerodynamic and utterly avant-garde design. Decades ahead of the norm, and utterly iconic.
This 1964 example is particularly noteworthy for its mechanical specification: it carries the 2.3-litre engine - the last and most powerful unit fitted to the DS range - paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, a combination that the vendor notes makes the car considerably easier to drive and live with on modern roads.
Purchased from a collector in 2019, this DS has been garaged throughout its current ownership. In 2020, the interior and electrical circuits were restored, and more recently, all hydraulics and the ignition system have been attended to.
