1968 Jaguar 240

*Notice to bidders - the VRM of the car is PAC 374F, not QG 589*

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Project car reimported from USA
  • Original RHD car
  • Complete, straight and largely solid
  • Rare manual gearbox model

THE APPEAL

With its curvaceous lines, compact proportions and fantastic chassis, the Jaguar Mk 2 is one of the most evocative classic cars of the 1960s, as well as one that
enjoyed a strong 11-year production run.
By the end of its life, the compact Jaguar had been forced to evolve, however. The new XJ6 was now the company's luxury flagship, so the Mk 2 was simplified
and a new base model introduced the 240 with a shortened stroke and smaller block reducing the engine size to just under 2.5-litres.

This is an early 240, from 1968. It’s also one with a very unusual backstory. Originally a right-hand-drive UK car, it was exported to the USA over 30 years ago
and came back around a decade ago, but has sat in covered storage ever since as part of a private collection.

It has never been re-registered in the UK, so the next owner will have to apply for a V5C.

SUMMARY

This is a car with plenty of potential whether you want to simply register it, tidy it up and use it, which shouldn’t prove too difficult, use it as the basis for a full
restoration or even use it as a basis for a historic motorsport car given its unconventional history. Whichever way, it’s a very good basis and a good place to start
