L’Attrait
Few vehicles shout 1980s pop culture quite like the GMC Vandura, and this 1981 ‘A Team’ replica taps straight into that nostalgia. Originally built as a tough, full-size American van, the Vandura became a household name thanks to its starring role in The A Team, where its bold stance, unmistakable colour scheme and V8 soundtrack turned it into an icon. With rear wheel drive, big presence and dependable V8 power, it was always a natural choice for television fame and remains a hugely recognisable classic today.
This example is one of the nicest we've seen in a long while. That is due to a recent £15,000 bare metal restoration. The vendor describes it as 'museum quality' and looking at the photos, we can see why. It is a low mileage van too, showing 55,486 miles, as seen in the accompanying photographs. First registered in January 1982, it has been in the current ownership since October 2016 and is supplied with a collection of invoices and paperwork for work carried out over the years. Being tax and MOT exempt adds to its appeal as a usable classic, while a full set of keys, including individual door keys and a key fob for the rear interior lighting, adds a welcome practical touch.
Finished in the classic grey over black paintwork with red pinstriping, the exterior presents particularly well, with only light signs of age, while the red 15-inch wheels with BFGoodrich tyres complete the instantly recognisable look. Inside, the grey, black and red leatherette interior offers belted seating for seven, a sunroof, single-DIN stereo and period details such as the wood and chrome steering wheel and original switchgear. The engine bay and underside appear tidy for their age, and the inclusion of ‘A Team’ themed memorabilia, including a members photo, signed plaque and California-style registration plate, adds to its charm as a fun, characterful collector piece with real presence. Few classics combine cultural impact and road-going presence quite like this Vandura, making it a compelling addition to any serious or fun-focused collection.
