The Appeal
Nobody quite expected the 850 T5-R, but then nobody quite expected the sober-suited Swedish manufacturer, beloved of antique dealers, to field a surprisingly competitive estate car in mid-90s BTCC races.
The road-going T5-R channelled that racing pedigree into a brutally capable alternative to the M5 and RS2. Where those cars were sporting, the Volvo was also supremely comfortable and, with few cosmetic tweaks over the standard cars, a serious sleeper too.
This Dark Olive Pearl T5-R automatic is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a long while. Much of that is down to the extensive investment by its enthusiast previous keeper. He undertook a ‘no expense spared’ renovation including full repaint and a mechanical overhaul. The list of work is detailed below. It built on what was an already well maintained car, the service book showing a run of work by main dealers and specialists.
The vendor acquired the car a couple of years ago. He has done few miles since, which has preserved the condition. It means the car has only covered 6,000 miles since the last cambelt change. The current MOT runs to June 2027 with no advisories and underlines the sense of a well presented car.
Rare to find in this condition, this is a T5-R well worth closer inspection.
