1933 Wolseley Hornet ‘Daytona Special’ - Now Reserved
For many years the Wolseley Hornet Special has been a familiar sight at VSCC meetings, these cars have plenty of character and a really superb exhaust note from their 6-cylinder overhead camshaft engine.
A vast number of coachwork styles were available on the Hornet Special chassis, but arguably the best looking and most purposeful was the ‘Daytona Special’ by Whittingham & Mitchell built for the main Wolseley concessionaires, Eustace Watkins.
Offered here is one such example; a ‘Sanction 78’ model, with all matching numbers, first registered in Hampshire on 21st July 1933 and retaining its original registration number.
In a previous owners’ hands for 25 years, the car was the subject of 3-year restoration from the bare chassis, this being completed in 1995 with the intention being to concentrate on originality and correctness of detail. As a result, this car has always been highly regarded as an important reference point for anyone restoring a similar model.
The car was off the road in storage between 2008 – 2017 and when recommissioned, work included a dynamo rebuild, rear brake reline, replacement of rear hub bearings and all new fluids and filters. During the last few years she has been sparingly used and all brake cylinders have just been renewed.
Looking every inch the purposeful sports car of its era, the car is a joy to drive, with a great soundtrack and plenty of charisma.
All weather equipment is complete and in serviceable condition and a substantial amount of documentation and useful information accompanies the car.
