This fabulous Jaguar MKIX Automatic has to be one of the very best driving examples we’ve had the pleasure of selling. Having had an impressive restoration retaining as much originality as possible, the MKIX was driven over to us faultlessly from Norfolk, covering over 200 miles in little over four hours of steady driving. GYS 28 is a matching numbers car, distributed out of Henlys London and supplied new to Venetian Vogue Ltd in Berkshire by their local dealership Peerless Motors in Slough. The Jaguar was supplied new in Pearl Grey with Red leather upholstery, dispatched on the 28th April 1960. The Jaguar was registered new with the Company’s private registration mark VV 1000 and later went onto the registration mark GYS 28.
GYS 28 now presents in exceptional condition with a stunning paint finish, superb, straight bodyshell with excellent gaps, it retains a fabulous, strong original underside and with various re-finished chrome, the car stands beautifully. The interior is beautiful with door tool kits present, perfect carpets and lovely original seats with some creases and patina evident in the front seats. The door cards are excellent, the headlining in lovely condition and the engine bay area and boot compartment are smartly presented.
GYS 28 is fabulous on the road, its a very smooth driving lusty Mk IX with excellent oil pressure and an exceptional auto gearbox. The early auto gearboxes on Jaguar were often quite harsh when getting on in years. This car feels so much younger on the road than it is. It has a smooth take-up under acceleration with a lovely surge as it changes into top gear. The steering and suspension, indeed the whole driving experience inspires confidence. Even on very uneven roads the steering is precise and the handling is never upset. This would make a very nice long distance luxury touring car and qualifies as one of those cars where the driving experience matches the lovely external appearance. Great registration number too - very period.
