The Chimaera remains without doubt the most popular model produced by TVR throughout their 73-year history.
Intended as a more spacious and comfortable offering to the already established Griffith, the Chimaera came with more touring boot space, slightly less aggressive looks and a softer, more compliant ride compared to its more brutish sibling.
As a very late model this Chimaera wants for nothing in terms of specification and includes the numerous updates and improvements that were made throughout the production run. These enhancements include the later revised bonnet and boot together with updated rear lights and countless mechanical enhancements made to the model over the previous six years.
Having arrived from a family with extensive and long term TVR ownership, they understood from over twenty years’ experience that correct and regular upkeep is vital and as such this 4. 0 litre car has been cared for beautifully. Along with complete servicing the car received an engine rebuild less than 4000 miles ago which included a new clutch plus uprated aluminium radiator. Importantly the chassis outriggers were replaced at the same time and a trail of invoices are on file for all this work which was carried out by recognised and long standing TVR specialists.
The pearlescent Imperial blue paint is virtually flawless and the magnolia and Prussian blue leather interior is in fantastic original condition. The targa element of roof and plastic rear window are again in pretty much perfect order. The rare Estoril alloys are unmarked and the car features the addition of optional power steering.
I'm a big fan of TVR and having owned a Griffith 500 for over 20 years it is fair to say I know them inside and out - good and bad. Having sold this Chimaera to its second keeper when almost new, virtually nothing has changed in terms of how the car looks and performs today.
