A very original W124 that was in the hands of its last owner for 28 years.
We sell a lot of low mileage cars but there is a real appeal in a car that’s been out on the road clocking up the miles, or in this case kilometres, with its long-term owner who evidently loved and cared for it.
This left-hand drive 230E was sold new to the German market, but from what we can establish was Belgian registered to its last owner in 1993. He kept the car until he passed away a year or so ago.
Finished in Pearl Blue metallic with grey cloth interior, it is optioned with front electric windows, outside temperature display, Becker Europa, electric rear roller blind and rear reading lights along with the usual automatic gearbox.
What’s so incredible about this car is that it is completely rust free and original. There is no rot or no welding or previous accident damage; the shell is exceptional, which is not something you often see with W124s these days.
As you can see from the photos, the car presents very well and looks sharp and original. Up close there are a few minor scratches that belay the car’s 31 year life, and you might notice that the front right door is a slightly darker shade than the rest of the body.
The interior is in excellent condition. There is no wear to the driver’s seat, the wood is unfaded and the instrument needles are nicely orange – all pointing to a car that has been garaged for most of its life. The optional Becker stereo and fire extinguisher are still in place, which is nice to see.
We have carried out a service and replaced the engine mounts and front springs and as a result the car drives beautifully. Recent MoT with no advisories.
Oil pressure and temperature readings are spot on and it runs and drives very well indeed. Curiously, it is the fastest 230E we have driven!
