The Appeal

This matching numbers Jaguar Mark 2 represents a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the most iconic classic British cars that has had all of the hard work done for you.
A recent bodywork restoration plus some sympathetic mechanical upgrades mean this fabulous example of the Mark 2 is ready to be driven and enjoyed for many years to come.

The History and Paperwork

  • Over £40,000 on bodywork restoration and repairs between 2018 and 2020 alone.
  • Lots of service and maintenance invoices plus many old MOT certificates going back to the eighties.
  • Jaguar Heritage Certificate proving it is a matching numbers car
  • Original buff log book and full owners manuals present
  • Jaguar workshop manual, spare keys and other literature
The owner purchased the car in 2021 and it has been dry stored ever since with very little use.
This Jaguar underwent extensive repairs and restoration in 2018 and 2020 (invoices present), which were carried out mostly by independent specialists JAGtechnic.

Since then it has been treated to even more expenditure to improve drivability and reliability. The owner has decided to sell his collection of vehicles in preparation for a house move upon retirement.

This Jaguar was originally owned by a Mr Godare and he must have liked it for he kept the car for 17 years and apparently toured Europe in the car. It then passed to Patrick Motors before finding its way via 2 short term owners to a Mr Allen who kept it a further 24 years.

There are also handwritten notes, various receipts for parts and work covering the latter part of the cars life.

The history file includes 24 MOT’s dating back to the 1980’s up to as recently as 2020 and suggests the recorded mileage of 89055 miles is probably correct.

The Interior

  • Original interior in good condition
  • Recent new carpets and secure original headlining
  • Original red leather upholstery with gorgeous wood trim
  • Full jaguar tool kit and spare wheel present
  • Dials and Smiths gauges in good working order
  • Interior wood in very nice shape
Described by the owner as a seven out of ten for condition, the interior of this Jaguar Mark 2 certainly presents very well for a car that is now 62 years old having much of its original interior.

The seatbelts are also rare original jaguar items with the embossed jaguar leaper on the buckles. The bright red leather with wood trim is the perfect combination of 60s style and class that could only be pulled off by a Jaguar of this era.

It is absolutely a wonderful place to be whether you are behind the wheel or simply a passenger along for the ride.

There is no significant damage to note, with the fixtures and fittings in very good order generally.

The owner does note that the door cards have been replaced, there is some darkening to the headlining, some localised tears in the driver’s seat squab and that the small clock in the tacho is not working.

The Exterior

  • Beautiful white paint in very good condition
  • Recently refurbished black wire wheels in superb order
  • Recent bodywork restoration
  • Rust proofing treatment applied to underside
  • New, expensive period looking Michelins from Longstone tyres

This stunning Jaguar Mark 2 certainly looks the part from the outside, its gleaming Old English White paintwork contrasted by the refurbished black wire wheels. The owner describes the bodywork as at least 8 of 10.

There are no specific visible blemishes on the outside, although the fixtures and fittings do bear some charming patination.

As part of a restoration process that was carried out in 2018-2019, extensive repairs were carried out to the doors, sills, boot lid and wings. This work was carried out to a tremendously high standard by renowned Jaguar specialists JAGtechnic in Eastbourne.

The underside is in good order as evidenced by the photographs. Structural repairs were part of the restoration, and an underbody rust protection treatment has been applied.

The Mechanics

  • Said to drive very well with good acceleration and braking performance
  • Rebuilt rear suspension and new torque arms commissioned by the owner in 2021 ensure excellent road manners.
  • New oil pressure sender
  • Lumenition electronic ignition fitted
  • Upgraded high output modern compact ‘wasp’ alternator

Mechanically this Jaguar Mark 2 is in very good working order, with the engine firing into life and idling exactly as it should after turning the key.

It sounds lovely and drives very well, does not overheat and runs the correct oil pressure of 40 plus psi, accelerating briskly through the gears while the fully working overdrive works as it should.

The engine bay is extremely tidy and there are no significant oil leaks noted by the owner. These 3.8-litre versions are said to use a little bit of oil but there is no smoke whatsoever.

Finally, the auto choke has been fitted with an override switch, making it easier and more pleasant to drive on warm up in cold weather.

Summary

This is a very handsome example of the fantastic Jaguar Mark 2 3.8 that has had a lot of money spent on ensuring it continues to provide not only visual pleasure, owing to its bodywork restoration, but visceral enjoyment too, thanks to well-sorted mechanicals.

The lucky new owner will be getting a fantastic classic British car that is stunning both inside and out.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
