The Appeal

For fans of the exemplary MkII Jaguar, of which there are many, this 1964 example ticks all the right boxes. Equipped with the largest engine available, the 3.8-litre XK straight-six and the rather sporting manual gearbox with overdrive, this is amongst the most dynamically accomplished variants of the esteemed MkII.
Without doubt one of William Lyons’ most impressive creations, the Jaguar MkII was renowned for its turn of speed, taught handling and futuristic technology such as the use of disc brakes. It’s no wonder that they were the car of choice for the British Police Force and the criminals they were chasing as well.
Presented in lovely order with a few tasteful upgrades to the mechanicals and interior, this Jaguar is ready to be enjoyed and we’re sure its next owner will be delighted with it.

The History and Paperwork

  • V5C present
  • Originally exported to South Africa
  • The car returned to the UK in 2001 and was restored in 2002
  • There have been three UK owners since it was imported
  • In 2004, we’re informed that the engine was extensively overhauled by Kent High Performance at a cost of over £3,000
  • The vendor informs us that the car has only covered around 3,000 miles since
  • A further service / recommission with Kent High Performance in August 2020 amounted to a little over £2,500
  • Accompanied by a spare parts catalogue along with Intereurope and Haynes workshop manuals
  • There is a ringbinder cataloguing invoices for servicing
  • The clutch was replaced in November 2022 at a cost of over £2,800
  • There is a new MOT with no advisories, dated 27/02/2023.

The Interior

  • Reupholstered in cream leather with red piping
  • Refinished woodwork
  • Moto-Lita steering wheel
  • Period correct Radiomobile radio upgraded to include FM stereo
  • Working original clock - reportedly a rarity in MkII Jaguars
  • Upgraded with XJ6 reclining front seats fitted
Part of the MkII’s brilliance was the way it combined performance with luxury, and it managed this at a very competitive price as well.
This car has been retrimmed, and having covered relatively few miles since, remains in very fine condition on the inside. The walnut dashboard shines and looks to be in really fine order. All the switchgear presents well and apparently works, as do the instruments. The vendor points out that even the rev counter-mounted clock functions, which is reportedly a rarity in MkII Jaguars.
A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel lends the driving experience a sporting feel and there’s little in the way of wear to report to it, or indeed the other controls.
The seats are reupholstered in cream leather with red piping to complement the exterior colour. There’s not much wear to report, besides some light creasing and general signs of use. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed the XJ6 front seats which recline and have headrests. We notice a couple of small nicks to the leather covered centre console and around the radio, but these are not especially noticeable.
All the red carpeting presents well without excessive wear. There is ample boot space and an original Jaguar tool kit is present along with a full-size spare wheel.

The Exterior

  • Carmen Red paintwork
  • Wider than standard chromed wire wheels with Pirelli tyres
  • Very smart bodywork and underside
  • Coombs-style rear arches
Resplendent in Carmen Red, this Jaguar is a very striking machine and we enjoy the period wire wheels with ‘knock-off’ spinners.
The vendor informs us that there are very few marks to the paint and we observe it is really smart and hxs a lustrous shine. There are a couple of areas where some slight bubbling is occurring, namely around the lower rear valance on the nearside and also in a few spots along the sills, although this does not appear to have broken the paint.
The bodywork looks really straight and underneath, the signs are very good. The vendor informs us that there is no corrosion anywhere to be seen, and there’s certainly been nothing identified during MOT testing.
The aforementioned chromed wire wheels are apparently wider than standard and look to be in very good order and the same can be said for the remaining brightwork, of which there is a fair quantity. All the glass too appears in good order along with the light lenses.
Overall, this is a smart example that can be used and enjoyed as Jaguar intended.

The Mechanics

  • 3.8-litre XK straight-six
  • Four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive (later version with synchromesh on all gears)
  • KCE power steering fitted
  • Harvey-Bailey handling kit
  • Stainless steel exhaust system
  • Coopercraft brakes
  • Upgraded shock absorbers
  • Electric fan
  • Aldon Automotive ‘Ignitor’ ignition
  • An alternator replaces the original dynamo
  • There is excellent oil pressure
The vendor informs us that this Jaguar drives impeccably and we’re not at all surprised given its enviable specification and raft of sympathetic upgrades.
That straight-six emits an intoxicating snarl via a stainless steel exhaust system and this Jaguar is able to make rapid progress with a fully synchronised four-speed manual gearbox and overdrive.
With a history of great care and attention when it comes to the mechanicals, this Jaguar is a fine driver’s car. Already impressive handling and braking are further enhanced by KCE power steering fitted, a Harvey-Bailey handling kit and Coopercraft brakes.
If you’re after a MkII you can drive quickly, this is the one for you.

Summary

There’s a lot to like about this Jaguar. With a great specification, a number of sympathetic upgrades and its lovely overall condition, don’t miss the excellent opportunity to make this car yours

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
