The Appeal
The DB5 may grab the headlines, but as a car to live with and drive, the DB6 makes a very strong case. More durable steel box-section construction, improved stability thanks to that distinctive Kamm tail, power steering, and a practical four-seat layout all explain why these cars remain so appealing to collectors who also value driving them.
The DB6 went through two versions, with the Mk2 gaining flared arches from August 1969.
These were cars built to master the newly emerging European high-speed autoroutes, which explains why Aston offered the Vantage upgrade. Higher compression and a trio of Weber carburettors raised output from 282bhp to 325bhp, giving these cars performance that still matches modern sports cars. It was an expensive option, which likely explains why only 268 Mk1s were factory-built in Vantage spec. Of these, we understand that just three were fitted with automatic gearboxes like this car.
Factory records confirm that this beautiful Oxford Blue Mk1 is a matching numbers car in its original colour combination. It also retains the long list of desirable options, including power steering, the Vantage engine, of course, a heated rear screen and bright chrome wires with three-eared spinners. It was originally registered to Jaeger Co in 1968 and remained with the firm until 1978. The current keeper acquired the car in 2023 from the previous one who had kept it on static display for many years in his private collection. The car was checked and serviced on purchase. It carries the added reassurance of a lengthy voluntary MOT valid to March 2027 with no advisories.
The car is in excellent overall condition. It carries the sort of light patina of age that adds a gentle dose of character that some fresh restorations lack. This is a genuinely rare opportunity to acquire a much-historied Vantage.

The extensive early records provided in the car’s history file show that it remains a matching numbers car. It also retains the various options with which it left the factory, which we have detailed above.
The car has had four keepers from new. It was originally acquired by the Jaeger Company, which retained it until 1978. The second keeper passed it on in 1989 and it was acquired by the current keeper in 2009. The car was acquired by the previous keeper, a prominent politician, in 2009 and kept on static display in his private collection. The current keeper acquired the car in 2023 upon which it was checked, recommissioned and serviced.
The Condition
- Deep Oxford blue paintwork in very good order and confirmed factory correct
- Paintwork is not perfect but signs of use are light and do not affect overall impression
- Retains factory options which are listed above (except headrest)
- Chrome wire wheels in virtually ‘as new’ condition with quality classic tyres fitted
- Underside as shown with no structural advisories on MOT
- Black leather interior is factory-correct including options
- Interior presents very well with only slight age to note
- Car retains period radio
- Carpets, headlining and instruments reported to be in very nice condition
- Under bonnet area described by vendor as particularly well and correctly presented
Much of the appeal of this car lies in how closely it retains its original factory specification, right down to the long list of options requested by Jaeger when it acquired the car in 1968. It remains very well presented, with the dark Oxford Blue paintwork in good order and a tasteful accompaniment to the black leather and extensive bright chrome work.
The four-seat cabin is in good order and nicely detailed with a three-spoke wood-rimmed wheel and period radio. The current voluntary MOT confirms that the structure is in good shape.
The Mechanics
- 3,995cc Tadek Marek straight six 325bhp Vantage-specification engine
- Triple Weber carburettors
- Borg Warner 3spd automatic transmission
- Factory fitted with power steering
- Matching numbers drivetrain confirmed by seller and paperwork
- Reported by the vendor to be running and driving very nicely
- No advisories on current MOT
- Very sparing use since 2006 confirmed by MOT
To achieve the hefty jump in power over the standard DB6, Aston Martin added triple Weber carburettors and raised the compression rate. Some cars were retrofitted with this specification by the factory or have subsequently been upgraded. This 1968 car isn’t one of them - it left the factory with this set-up, as chassis records shown in the photos confirm.
The same factory records and the vendor confirm that this is a matching numbers Mk1 Vantage. It is said to be in very good mechanical order and to run and drive well. That’s a view supported by the useful voluntary MOT from March 2026, which shows no advisories.
The car has been little-used since the vendor acquired it in 2009. That, plus the low keepers, supports the displayed mileage, although it is not warranted.
