The Appeal

Arguably the aesthetic pinnacle of the open-top air-cooled 911 range for many purists, the ‘F’ body 911 Targa was introduced to the world in 1967. Initially supplied with a rigid ‘safety bar’ and a folding rear window section, this was later updated to a permanent glass structure from 1968 onwards, though the production of soft/hard window models overlapped somewhat.
This particular example is a ’73 ’T’ Targa, which has been extensively restored, overhauled and considerately customised by renowned tuning house Rindt Vehicle Design, including a full respray into the iconic Irish Green hue, and a full mechanical overhaul.

History/Paperwork

  • Previously restored by marque specialist Rindt Vehicle Design
  • Well-documented restoration - photographs present
  • In previous long term ownership between 1985 and 2020
First registered in August 1973, this 2.4-litre F-Series 911 Targa was delivered to the UK from new and has been comprehensively restored restored and transformed by Rindt Vehicle Design of Maidenhead.
In single ownership between 1985 and 2020, details of this ownership period are supplied in the form of a letter from this keeper, which will accompany the sale of the vehicle.
Finished in Irish Green wonder, full details of the bodywork and mechanical attention carried out are as follows:
  • Complete strip, prep and bare-metal repaint in Irish Green, carried out to the highest standards
  • New nearside floor pan and nearside ‘kidney bowl’
  • Full interior strip, re-finish in Tartan and new dash trim
  • New inner and outer sill protectors
  • Fresh chrome bumper mouldings
  • New front and rear windscreen rubbers
  • New sun visors (currently in the frunk)
  • New horns
  • Fitment of new Targa roof seals
  • Deep clean of carpets
Alongside the above, the engine was removed from the vehicle, stripped, serviced and fitted with new upper and lower cam covers, new oil pipes (where required) and repairs to the wiring loom.
To back up all of the above, the car comes with plenty of invoices, documentation, a photographic record of the restoration and a number of old MoT certificates, along with the aforementioned letter from the previous keeper and the V5.

The Interior

  • Full re-trim in green/blue tartan to match Irish Green bodywork
  • Upgraded Pioneer stereo
  • Excellent condition - minimal use since restoration
Inside, the classic driver-focused interior of the F-series 911 remains as welcoming today as it was when new, and this example presents wonderfully thanks to its extensive re-trim whilst at Rindt.
The seats show virtually no signs of any discernible wear-and-tear, and have evidently seen minimal use since being re-covered. The dashboard is free of any cracks or sun damage, and the carpets throughout remain in great condition.
Matching tartan over-mats have been provided (with spares in the frunk) and new sun-visors were obtained, which are also kept in the luggage compartment.
Being very particular, the door cards show some signs of wear around the catches and the storage pockets, whilst the Porsche boss on the steering wheel is not affixed correctly.
Up above, the folding targa roof panel remains in good condition, though the latch/handle for the nearside catch has gone walkabouts.
In the luggage compartment up front, the carpets are clean and free of any stains, and there were no signs of any fuel smells that we could notice.
A modern Pioneer stereo has been fitted, though the vehicle remains in otherwise OE condition.

The Exterior

  • Irish green bodywork in excellent condition
  • No bodywork damage or heavy wear
  • Targa roof present and folding correctly
Resplendent in Irish Green - always a favourite with the Porsche fraternity - this 911T looks nothing short of arresting, and certainly drew plenty of admiring glances and quick phone photographs whilst we were out in London photographing it for this advert.
The bodywork and paint both remain in exemplary condition, with only a few very small marks noted when looking up-close. The chrome work is also in generally good order, though there is some commensurate pitting/patina visible on the window surrounds, around the quarter lights and some wear on the front bumper inserts.
As far as we could tell, all badges and trims were present-and-correct.
The removable roof panel fits well and collapses as it should, though the covering on the panel appears to be lifting slightly towards the rear.
Looking around the vehicle, there is no sign of any accident damage, dents or dings, and no damage to any of the light lenses or glass. We did notice that the ‘frunk’ lid sits slightly off to the nearside, and sits slightly proud on the upper nearside corner.
All four wheels remain in good order, though there are signs of commensurate wear such as pitting, dulling and minor marks as seen in the photographs below.

The Mechanicals

  • Engine out overhaul and complete service
  • New upper and lower cam covers
  • Fantastic, iconic air-cooled soundtrack
  • Recently serviced and gone over by Duke of London in advance of sale
Hanging out behind the rear axle, the 2.4-litre air-cooled flat-six engine at the heart of this 911T provides a rousing, spirited soundtrack out on the open road, along with the characteristic ‘chat’ that all air-cooled enthusiasts love when idling.
It is possible that a new battery may be required, as during our shoot the vehicle required a battery jump pack to be used when starting.
In the bay itself, the engine and its ancillaries present very well indeed, with no signs of any leaks, misting or obvious issues visible from above, whilst everything looks to be in its right-and-proper place.
Underneath, the chassis looks to be in good condition as far as we could tell, as one would expect for such a thoroughly restored car.

Summary

Presented in excellent condition aesthetically, finished in arguably one of the best period-correct colours for an air-cooled Porsche and shod in what many believe to be the best-looking body ever to wear the coveted 911 badge, this 1973-registered 911T would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Porsche’s finest.
Whilst the mechanicals may need a little TLC and a good-old ‘Italian tune-up’ the rest of the vehicle is in fantastic shape, and has proven itself to be a true head-turning classic.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
