In the 80’s if the best available luxury off-roader wasn’t good enough you took your Land Rover Range Rover to a company called Overfinch, a bespoke engineering firm specialising in the Marque who could improve the car in terms of performance, handling, stopping and enhancements.
Most Range Rover Classics received either a 5.0 or 5.7 litre engine, offered in various stages of tune, but here we have a 6.2 litre conversion believed to be one of only two Classics, which were more usually, designated by Overfinch, as the 620T
The conversion turned a great car into an exceptional one, which delivered towering performance and sport car handling, with original examples being very few and far between, let alone one with the super-rare 6.2 Chevy engine fitted.S960ke73AbgXUUQ6jo22di5WM8OItX4QEfUtDRds.jpeg376.49 KB

Converted from new by Overfinch in 1987 to 6.2 litres specification, after a few owners the car spent many years dry stored in Kensington before being re-commissioned in 2016 when purchased by the current owner.
Inside the 4-door Classic the cabin is in great overall condition showing very few signs of its age, with only the worn Momo sports steering wheel showing some wear and tear.
The headlining, which is often sagging, is nice and tight and the door cards and dashboard are all in great condition with the wood door cappings having the odd small mark or scratch but still presenting very well.
There is a later stereo head unit fitted and all the electrics work as they should, and in the boot there is a beautiful wooden bespoke gun case and drinks cabinet fitted for those outdoor sporting pursuits.IywTpYuPQevf7tVZ4hEJs4TZwpplKXtbmnvXdOq0.jpeg296.51 KB
The Exterior
Cyprus Green
Overfinch wheels
Overfinch front and rear badging
Badged ‘SUPER RANGER’ on the side
Extra engine bay vents
Great overall condition
The Cyprus Green paintwork has recently been refreshed with a full shot blasted back to metal re-spray in its original colour and the car really does present itself very well with its Overfinch wheels giving it a more aggressive and lower profile.
The alloys are in very nice condition with excellent fast-road tyres, and the car is badged SUPER RANGER beneath the added Overfinch engine bay side vents, (required to help disperse heat generated by the big V8), and at the rear it is badged ‘6.2 litre’ with the original Overfinch bespoke badge opposite, neatly displayed on the tailgate which is in very good order.
There are a few scuffs and stone chips to be found but the car overall looks great, with only the odd rear window rubber and some cracks in the heated windscreen, to report.
Having sat for a while the car was fully re-commissioned in 2012, including rebuilding the V8’s top-end, fitting a new Edelbrock intake manifold and carburettor, and fitting a bespoke stainless steel complete exhaust system.
Within the endless receipts we can see that the gearbox was completely rebuilt and there are many receipts for various service items and maintenance parts throughout its years on the road, which show that it has been well cared for mechanically.
The gearbox is a Chevy 700R4 and there is a fixed torque split of 2:1 rear to front.
It currently runs on new Pro-Sport springs and shock absorbers with twin shocks on the rear, new bushes all round, new brakes and a new complete fuel delivery system.
Take a look under the bonnet and there’s plenty going on, the engine bay full to the brim of up-rated 6.2 litre Chevy V8, where you’ll also find many recently changed new parts including battery, alternator, and high capacity radiator.
The name Super Ranger is well chosen as the high-output V8 pushes out around 420 BHP and over 450 LBS of torque and can propel this luxury and very unique off-roader to speeds of well over 140 MPH.
This is a real one-off beast of a car in exceptional condition with Overfinch Bespoke Engineering giving this Classic Range Rover the performance and handling that you’d normally associate with a hot-hatch.
There may only be one other of these in captivity or this could be the only one, whichever is true this is a very unique and super-rare super Range Rover with a full history and very few genuine miles.
An opportunity not to be missed!
