Background

The Porsche 944 was built from 1982 to 1991 and was built on the same platform as the 924. It was intended to last into the 1990's but major revisions planned for a 944 S3 model were eventually rolled into the 968 instead which replaced the 944.
The 944 was a successful model and was available as both a coupé and cabriolet in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. In mid-1985, the Porsche 944 underwent significant changes. The post 1985 cars, turbos and S variants are considered more desirable than the earlier cars, having improved interiors, stiffer suspension, as well as a restyled body with wider arches and an integrated front bumper.

With the help of the Turbo the silky smooth balanced four cylinder engine put out 217bhp, with external oil coolers for both engine and transmission

History

First registered in March 1988 this Satin Black 944 Turbo has had just four owners over the past 33 years, in the care of the current owner for the past 10 years.

It is obvious that all the owners have gone to great lengths to keep the Porsche in top condition as can be seen when leafing through the sizeable history file.  Closer examination of the car itself shows that for its age and mileage the condition is can only be described as excellent.

In our opinion the Porsche has lived a pampered life, and looks to have been garaged which has saved the plastic parts as well as the interior cloth.

The Paperwork

There is plenty of paperwork with the car, as well as the owner’s manual and service books.
The most recent bill on file is dated 18th May this year for £1,920 for a major service.

All oil and filters, seals and hoses were changed along with belt tensioners, timing, camshaft, balance shaft, alternator and power steering belts.  A new water pump and thermostat were fitted along with new hoses.  The MOT was completed on the same visit and is valid until 26th May 2022.
There is a full Owners wallet, complete with service book.  There are 29 stamps in the full book, the last being at 57,000 miles in 2005, although there are invoices for plenty of maintenance since.

There are also numerous old MOTs on file, we counted 24 but there may be more. Other work of note includes some attention to the chassis, wings and near side sill in 2018 at a cost of £2,150.

The Interior

The interior of this Turbo is outstanding for its age.  With only wear on the steering wheel giving away its mileage; at a guess you’d say it was only a few years old. That said the interior is a monument to late 80s style.

The interior colour, Porsche code BQ, translates as brown velour with beige piping.  We would say it’s more a maroon or dark red hue which at first glance is quite a surprise, but suits the car and compliments the black exterior.

We think that a glance at the photos will reassure any bidder that there is nothing that needs addressing -it’s virtually brand new.

The Exterior

The Porsche presents well, with all the Satin Black paint in good overall condition.  There are minor stone chips to the front of the car, and edges of the wheel arches behind the wheels, but these are only obvious on close inspection.  The glass is all clear and unmarked, and the electric windows work as they should.
The wheels are 16 inch “Flat Face” polished alloys which were a relatively rare option on 944 Turbos in 1988.  They are in reasonable condition and have not been curbed, but would benefit from a good clean or better still refurbishment.  They are shod with a matching set of Pirelli Cinturato P7s that have plenty of life in them.

The Mechanics

With so much work recently completed the mechanics of the Porsche are in fine fettle.  The car feels tight and there were no knocks or rattles on out short drive. The Vendor reports the Porsche has plenty of power, and has completed some long journeys recently with great ease.

The engine bay is clean and there is no evidence of drips or leaks.

The Appeal

This post facelift 944 Turbo leaves very little to be desired.  For a car of its age it looks and sounds to be about as good as one could hope for.  Yes, the miles are a tad on the high side, but it averages out to a very reasonable 3,200 per year.

We would choose a car that looks smart, has had all the expensive jobs completed recently and has been regularly driven over any low mileage garage dweller!  No disappointments here.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
