• Turbo S factory upgrades • One of only 77 UK cars • Original example
The Background
Towards the end of the production of the 944 Turbo came the release of the Turbo S ‘Silver Rose’.
Built only for the 1988 model year, it featured an enlarged turbocharger and exhaust valves to give 250bhp, an upgraded transmission with an extra cooling unit, limited-slip differential, larger 928 S4-spec front brakes, and ‘Clubsport’ wheels. The car’s increased power results in a 0-60mph time of just 5.5 seconds, and a top speed of 162 mph.20210921_145619.jpg3.35 MB
The History
One of only a limited production of 77 cars this Porsche Silver Rose Edition comes with a limited history and will require some TLC and a good going over before any use as it has sat unused for the last 8 months.
In checking back through its MOT history since 2005 it has regularly done only a couple of thousand miles each year, which reduces to significantly less than this in more recent years.
It comes with a partial Porsche Service history and a few receipts for various works but is reported to start and drive well with no obvious faults.20210921_145321.jpg3.34 MB
The Paperwork
The car comes with the V5 showing 12 previous keepers, an MOT that expires shortly and one key. It comes with a partial Porsche Service history and a few receipts for various works.20210921_151619.jpg3.2 MB
The Interior
Supplied with a ‘Studio” plaid cloth interior in Burgundy the car features the original interior which is all there but showing its age with some staining to the plaid door cards and a particularly distressed driver’s seat with seat-back bolster being split and a cover missing over the hinge.
The rear seats are actually pretty good and the carpets, although worn in places are not too bad, having been saved by the floor mats, and the centre console doesn’t secure properly.
A good professional clean with some repairs here and there would surely bring this interior back to life.20210921_144319.jpg4.18 MB
The Exterior
Recently the Silver Rose Paintwork has been treated to some professional touching up and a machine polish and the overall paintwork and body appears to be in a very presentable condition with the turbo script on the wing showing off the car’s promise of performance.
The body appears to be nice and straight with no obvious damage, the Clubsport wheels are all in good condition and all have tyres with plenty of tread left, and both front and rear bumpers appear all good with no obvious knocks or cracks. There is only a slight crack in the driver’s side front light to be made aware of.20210921_144445.jpg2.82 MB
The Mechanics
Other than a new battery being fitted recently the mechanics are a little unknown. The car starts well and drives with no obvious faults being evident but having said that the seller now strongly recommends a good going over before any road use as there may be faults which are not noted.20210921_145209.jpg3.44 MB
The Appeal
The Porsche 944 is a luxury sports car that because of its perfect weight distribution was a very responsive and great car to drive.
The Silver Rose Turbo S edition is a rare and very collectible Porsche with came some great engine and handling upgrades that really accentuated this models handling and performance, and with only 77 examples ever being sold in the UK its rarity and desirability is unlikely to ever diminish over time, and so future appreciation of the classic Porsche is virtually guaranteed.
