Background

Initially launched in 1971 based on the Cortina Mk3, and subsequently the Mk4 from 1977, the Cortina pickup was renamed the P100 in 1982. In late-1987 the P100 was re-bodied with the new Ford Sierra-based cab. Engine choices were originally the Sierra's 2.0 litre "Pinto" or a 1.8 diesel.

The range was built in Portugal for the European market, to a design set out by Ford UK.  It proved a strong seller, particularly in the UK market, and was a common sight on UK roads. Production of the P100 came to an end when the Ford Sierra was replaced by the front wheel drive Mondeo range in 1993.

History

The early history of this P100 is largely unknown; it was 1st registered on 23rd March 1990, and had plenty of owners before it was purchased around 2010 by a talented engineer who was looking for a challenge!

The P100 was completely dismantled and he decided to produce a one-off custom version to his own spec and taste.  Towards the end of the project circumstances changed and the nearly completed project was sold to the Vendor in March of 2020.

He has finished the build to a high standard and he is now offering it for sale whilst it’s still “fresh” and ready to roll.  As you can see from the photographs this is an extremely cool custom build.

The Paperwork

The history file is a bit thin, but that’s not really important as now the P100 bears no relation to the truck it once was!

There are some old MoTs, a collection of Tax Discs and various different Ford brochures for the P100 range, plus an Owners handbook. There is also a memory stick of photographs documenting the build.

A quick look through these shows the level of detail and quality of the work undertaken.  It has all been carried out to a high level.

The Interior

The interior is mildly customised with comfortable Recaro seats in black and red quilted Alcantara and there are matching quilted insets in the door panels  Matching red carpet extends up the bulkhead behind the seats and covers the inside of the roof.

The floor carpets are light grey and look to be Sierra spec, with floor mats either side.  The light grey console and dash is all in tidy condition and looks to be original Sierra too although we think it’s all likely to have been replaced as the buttons and switchgear look too clean to have done over 50,000 miles in a working truck!

There is a little work to do here as there is a hole where a radio should be, a missing lighter, and the Vendor reports that the speedo works intermittently. The glass sunroof opens and closes as it should.

All in all the interior has been well executed and is clean and usable as it is.  There is still scope for improvement should the purchaser desire.

The Exterior

Outside the P100 looks the business.  Painted in eye popping Candy Apple Red Metallic you can see from the photographs that it glows in the sunlight.

The paint has been well applied, with a good mirror finish.  The panel fit is good and the truck has a nice stance, sitting on 16 inch 5 spoke alloys painted in black gloss.  They have matching Zeetex tyres which are barely worn.
The rear bed has been coated with hard wearing black Raptor paint, and there is a gloss painted rack behind the rear window.  The outside mirrors are Ford XR4i items.

At the rear the dual exhausts exit through the rear valance, either side of the number plate.

The Mechanics

This is where the P100 really stands out.  Under the bonnet sits a 3,500cc Rover V8 and 5 speed gearbox.
Heat wrapped tubular exhaust manifolds run either side down to a single 3 inch pipe that passes into a large silencer, with dual tail pipes at the rear.

The running gear and suspension is all Ford XR4i, with power steering, and disc brakes at the front.
The V8 is clean and well detailed, with cam covers painted to match the body with tidy wiring and blue hoses. The engine bay is properly painted and it’s obvious that the build has been well planned and executed.
When we visited the P100 roared into life with no hesitation, and settled into a deep, understated burble.
We followed it to the photo location and it appeared to drive well with no smoke, and it’s quick..  we struggled to keep up!

The Appeal

We think a quick look at the photos says it all.  What a well built and attractive bit of kit this is and we are sure that whoever is lucky enough to place the winning bid will not be disappointed.

It would be excellent advertising as “parts truck” for a garage, and would look equally good at a custom car show or on cruise night.  We doubt you’ll have a chance like this again any time soon.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
