The Appeal

If you want to understand why BMW’s E30 was so successful, just take a look at this 1991 example. Well-presented in Brilliant Red with the optional M-Tech II body kit and BBS ‘basketweave’ alloys, it is hard to think of a contemporary rival saloon that looks better.

The car cleverly apes the look of the six-cylinder performance models, but is actually a debadged 316i with the revvy M40 fuel-injected engine and a five-speed manual box. It’s a light engine that makes the most of the E30’s lauded dynamics.

The car is in great condition and has clearly been cherished. The MOT indicates that it has been in storage for a few years, but it is now equipped with an advisory-free test valid to January 2027. Rare and well specified, this is a really tempting slice of early 90s motoring nostalgia.
