The Appeal

Following on from the XJS, in 1996 the XK8 modernised Jaguar’s sports car line-up with a more advanced design and drivetrain. It was, unsurprisingly, a real success and remained in production until the mid-2000s.

Here we have a convertible example, fitted with the naturally aspirated V8 and automatic transmission. It’s a handsome and characterful car that offers the traditional Jaguar blend of grace, space and pace.

The Interior

Cream leather upholstery with stone coloured secondary leather is in reasonable condition, with some wear and creasing
There is some damage to the leather of the driver’s side door card, and the centre arm rest
Complementary stone coloured carpets
Wood veneer trim is mostly in good order, but there is some damage to the veneer in the centre of the dashboard fascia

As far as we can see, all of the switchgear and trim appears to be complete, but is showing some signs of natural wear and tear from use

The Exterior

Solid red paintwork contrasts well with the black roof and silver wheels, but would benefit from some correction and polishing
The bodywork looks to be straight and in fine fettle, with no notable damage or corrosion evident
Some of the badging and trim looks to be a little worn and faded
Electrically operated black fabric roof appears to be in nice condition, with no damage or significant fading we could see
Fitted with the factory seven-spoke alloys, which would benefit from some refurbishment

The Mechanics

3,996cc naturally aspirated V8, offering 290hp when new
Factory performance figures: 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds, 250km/h limited top speed
Automatic 5-speed ZF transmission
ABS and power steering
The engine bay shows well, looking clean and tidy with no signs of leaks or damage we could see

Summary

With a little cosmetic work, this debonair V8 roadster could soon be very smart indeed. The X100 has always been a handsome car, and they are certainly becoming more collectible and good examples are sought-after.

If you’ve always fancied experiencing the burbling vigour and welcoming luxury of a Jaguar roadster, this could well be an excellent way to do it.
