2006 Jaguar S-Type 4.2L V8 SE

Highlights

  • A great looking example of the luxurious S-Type with an incredibly low, original mileage
  • Imported from the benign climate of South Africa in 2011
  • Boasting a very comprehensive and fully documented service history

The Appeal

The S-Type Jaguar appeared for the first time at the 1998 Birmingham Motor Show, thus reviving a model name not used since 1968. The Geoff Lawson design offered a retrospective interpretation of the mid-sized luxury saloon that initially divided opinion. Many purists, however, considered it as a true spiritual successor to the Jaguar MKII of the early ‘60’s.

Offered with a range of powertrains, this 4.2L V8 model was the second most powerful with only the supercharged R model outgunning it. Given that, many consider this iteration as offering the best, real-world economy to performance ratio.

The History and Paperwork

  • This S-Type was first registered in March 2006 in South Africa
  • The car was supplied new by Jaguar Bedfordview with 37 kms on the clock
  • The car spent the next eight years in South Africa
  • During this period the car underwent four Jaguar main dealer services, the last at a mere 16,174 kms
  • In 2011 the car was imported to the UK and registered here in September 2011
  • Between then and now the S-Type has undergone five services
  • The last of these was at Jaguar Glasgow around 1,500 miles ago
  • The paperwork archive is generous and includes lots of provenance providing documents
  • The current V5 is present as is the current MOT in hard copy
  • The latter is advisory free and is valid until June 2023
  • The original book pack is present including the all-important service book
  • The service book contains no less than nine stamps – in under 27,000 miles
  • There are plenty of invoices included for work undertaken
  • The most recent is from July this year for over £1,200

The Interior

  • The interior of this S-Type is sumptuously finished in Oatmeal leather
  • The car is generously equipped with numerous valuable extras
  • The interior appears pristine, commensurate with the very low mileage

Jaguar saloons have long specialised in serving up a “special occasion” feel to every drive. This car is certainly no exception. The Oatmeal leather and mid-toned contrasting trim lends this cabin a really light and airy ambiance. The electrically operated glass sunroof helps flood the cabin with natural light too. The S-Type’s cabin is sumptuously trimmed, luxuriously appointed, and appears to be in a pristine overall condition.
The front seats are commodious, supportive, and electrically adjustable. The driver’s seat even features a multi-setting memory function. The rear bench appears equally luxurious and features a folding centre armrest for added comfort. Door cards, centre console and dashboard feature accents of maple veneer for added prestige, as if any were needed!
The accommodating boot is fully trimmed in a hard-wearing grey carpet and appears unmarked. The under-floor area is home to the spare wheel and original jack and tool set which appears to have been unused.

The Exterior

  • The S-Type is finished in lustrous Midnight Black Metallic paintwork
  • The sporty looking 18-inch Mercury alloy wheels appear equally pristine
  • No blemishes were noted or reported with the owner describing an “almost new” presentation

The Geoff Lawson exterior design of the S-Type received mixed reviews at launch. Like many bold designs, however, familiarity has helped endear the S-Type to enthusiasts and casual onlookers alike. This example looks very elegant and sophisticated indeed.

The metallic black paintwork exudes a deep shine and there is just enough shiny brightwork to accentuate the complex curves and sweeps of this accomplished design. The multi-spoke “Mercury” Jaguar alloys complement this dark colourway perfectly and, being 18-inch examples, lend the car a subtly sporting demeanour.

The cabin glass and light lenses all appear to be in excellent original condition and the chromed, leaping Jaguar bonnet mascot rounds off the appearance of this S-Type perfectly. A really eye-catching example in a fine, original condition.

The Mechanics

  • This car is fitted with the 4.2L version of the AJ-V8 engine originally rated at 282 bhp
  • The six speed ZF automatic gearbox sends that power to the rear wheels
  • This car has been fastidiously maintained and, hence, is understood to be in excellent mechanical condition

Many purists favour this engine and gearbox combination in the S-Type. Hardly much slower than the most powerful R model and yet offering a more practical level of economy and improved refinement, this is somewhat of a range sweet spot.

With the life-long and regular maintenance this example has received it is little wonder that the current owner rates the mechanical condition of this car so highly. Despite its miniscule mileage the service book is packed with stamps and the numerous invoices document the significant amounts spent.

The S-Type has had over £1,200 spent on the suspension and brakes in July of this year and quality 245/40 Pirelli tyres appear to have been fitted recently, with good levels of tread in evidence all round.

The under-bonnet presentation appears very good and showcases the potent V8 engine very well. The underside of the car presents very well indeed for a sixteen-year-old car and seems to have clearly benefitted from spending its early life in the benign climate of South Africa.

Summary

S-Type Jaguar’s aren’t a particularly rare sight on today’s roads. Examples of this calibre, however, most certainly are. The astonishing, sub-27,000-mile history alone really sets it apart form the norm, representing a mere 1,700 miles per year on average.

Add to that the pristine overall condition and appealing colourway combined with a service history that is rarely seen in such low mileage cars and you will soon realise that this S-Type represents a very rare ownership prospect indeed. Bid today to avoid missing out on this superb example.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
