The Appeal

Introduced in 2005, the fifth generation Mustang is a very handsome coupé, and one that provides the kind of easy performance the brand is renowned for.

With a practical 2+2 layout, that beefy V8 drivetrain, a manual transmission and a Rousch styling package, this example offers a neat combination of ability, practicality and drama. With below average mileage and a long MOT, this could be the perfect way to experience the pony car on UK roads.

The Interior

Black leather upholstery with contrast stitching appears to be in good order, with some light creasing to the seats, but no notable wear or tears evident
Dark grey carpets and complementary floor mats appear to be in nice condition, with no significant marks or damage we could see
The headlining looks to be nice and secure, with no stains and tears apparent
Shaker sound system – CD, radio and hands-free phone connection
Electric adjustment on the front seats
Air conditioning with front and rear demisters
Cruise control
The boot is trimmed in grey carpet, which presents well, and includes a spacesaver spare wheel

The Exterior

The paintwork is in reasonably good order, with a few minor chips, marks and blemishes, but nothing that would concern us
The bodywork shows well, looking straight and tidy with no signs of significant damage or corrosion, although there is some bubbling showing at the front centre edge of the bonnet
Rousch bodykit (bonnet, skirts and boot lip spoiler) appears to be present and correct, with no damage we could identify
Integrated front spotlights and fog lights
19-inch black ten-spoke alloys would benefit from refurbishment
Underneath, the car looks nice and solid, with a little surface corrosion to some drivetrain components, but no evidence we could see of major corrosion

The Mechanics

4,951cc naturally aspirated V8 driving the rear wheels
The engine bay itself looks nice and tidy, with no damage or evidence of leaks and overheating that we could see
Six-speed manual transmission, the MOT notes a minor leak on the differential
Recent new battery
3-inch exhaust system from the manifolds, including sports cats and racing mufflers
Large Brembo discs and callipers to the front
BC Racing coilovers all round, offering height, camber and damping adjustment
Adjustable UM Performance panhard bar across the rear axle

Summary

If there’s a more evocative name in American motoring than “Mustang”, then we don’t know what it is. The original pony car has long been the stuff of dreams, particularly for those of us in the UK who have only recently been able to buy them new.

This example benefits from some eye-catching visual enhancements as well as some fine mechanical upgrades, making it a wonderful proposition for anyone who’s always wanted to experience V8 Mustang ownership.
