The Porsche 981 is the internal designation given to the third-generation of the Boxster and second generation of the Cayman models built by German automobile manufacturer Porsche.

The 981 reflects the new design language from the 911 (991) and 918, and features revised engine and transmission specifications. There is a small weight reduction of up to 35 kg (77 lb) compared to the outgoing 987.

The 981 was the first Boxster/Cayman to use electronically assisted steering, and the parking brake in the car uses an electronic linkage. The instrument cluster features a 4.6" TFT colour screen in conjunction with various sensors that can display accurate engine temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure.

The Sport Chrono Package includes dynamic gearbox mounts. Another new feature on the 981 is the auto start/stop system.

The car has one previous owner and was bought by the current owner from Porsche, Chester in August 2018 as a retirement present to himself.

It has been regularly used and enjoyed since his purchase and now with more time on his hands he fancies more of a project vehicle to tinker with so he has decided to let the 981 find a new home.

The vehicle comes with all of the original Porsche handbooks and documentation, paperwork pertinent to its service history and a number of receipts for works undertaken.

There are also two keys present , the V5C and latest MOT.

The interior on this vehicle is stunning in black leather and has all the mod cons one would expect from a premium marque like Porsche. The interior is in fine condition and unmarked, the modern steering wheel and gauges really set this interior off. 

The auto box is of course also controllable from the paddle shift on the steering wheel and everything is focused on the driver which makes for a lovely seating position and driving experience.

The exterior of the car is in great condition and wears it’s 68k miles well, there are minimal marks and its very clean indeed. The cloth roof is in excellent condition as is the rear glass it also has the optional electrically operated spoiler.

The car sits on 20” Carrera diamond cut wheels wrapped in Pirelli tyres with plenty of tread having been renewed in Feb 2022. The wheels themselves do have minimal curbing which has resulted in water ingress under the lacquer so would benefit from a refurb if the new owner was inclined but as you can see they still look fantastic.

The car starts, stops, runs just as to be expected and sounds fantastic through the single pipe exhaust. It had new front brake discs and pads fitted in January 2021.

It shifts up and down as it should and as to be expected with anything from the Porsche stable it’s an engaging drive, even more so being mid engine and with the roof down when you can really hear that engine sing.

The car is also fitted with Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM) and has front and rear parking assist.

The appeal for this car almost writes itself, I mean look at it! The 981 Boxster is a stunning vehicle and this particular example its very clean. From the 20 inch wheels, to the full black leather interior, electric roof and optional extras such as the electrically operated rear spoiler.
