The Background
With 600PS from a 5.0 litre Supercharged V8 engine, Project 8 is the most powerful road legal Jaguar in history.
Total production was to be limited to 300 cars worldwide, each one hand-assembled at the SVO Technical Centre in Warwickshire, England. As it turned out it is likely that only 199 of the originally planned 300 will be produced.
Exclusively available only in left hand drive.
The heart of the car is Jaguar’s legendary supercharged V8. But speed and driving exhilaration aren’t just about power. Jaguar’s pioneering Lightweight Aluminium Architecture combined with Project 8’s extensive use of carbon fibre – for the bonnet, bumpers, fenders, side skirts, front splitter and rear aero wing – keep weight to a minimum.
The Jaguar Project 8 has achieved the fastest lap ever for a Jaguar on the Nurburgring, faster than any other four door production-intent saloon in history and faster than many renowned supercars.
The Project 8 Jaguar is exclusive, desirable, and very collectible….and very fast!
The History
The car was purchased in December 2018 intended for private use in a planned race series unique to the Project 8. For various reasons the series didn’t go forward so the car was never actually raced on the track at all and has now been converted back from its original ‘Track Pack’ spec to road specification.
The good news is, it’s now available for sale.
The Paperwork
The V5 document is present and shows two owners.
Being first registered on 29/10/2018 it will be due an MOT later this year. The original purchase receipt is also included.
The Interior
Finished in Ebony the carbon fibre, black leather with contrasting dark grey Alcantara interior is totally as new and features the upgraded Meridian sound system, heads up display, carbon fibre and leather Recaro seats, DVD player, parking sensors, reversing camera and all the usual Jaguar XE refinements and equipment.
As this is the 2-seater road version with the factory fitted track pack, a £10,500 optional extra, there are no rear seats and instead there is the half roll cage.
The Exterior
The car looks very purposeful in its gleaming Valencia Orange Ultra Metallic paintwork and deep adjustable front splitter, rear diffuser, and large adjustable rear aero wing in all in carbon fibre and black.
The car has the largest and most technologically advanced brakes ever fitted to a Jaguar – vast 400mm carbon ceramic discs with huge 6-piston callipers up front provide incredible stopping power. Lightweight forged black alloy wheels and specially developed Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres combine superior handling and balance with outstanding levels of grip and comfort.
The exterior is in near mint condition, although a few small scratches were evident on one of the wheel arches, which the owner assures us, will be dealt with by his favourite detailer before the auction completes.
The Mechanics
Engineered to be the world’s most exhilarating sports saloon, Project 8 uses motor sport derived suspension and a modified All Wheel Drive system for outstanding driver feel and agility.
Damper mounts are ball-jointed to improve response and there are two ride heights – one for the road and a 15mm lower setting for the track.
All Wheel Drive ensures superb responsiveness, traction, and agility. No Jaguar feels more ‘alive’ than this one. The handling is rear-drive based, like a two-door supercar.
The Intelligent Driveline Dynamics includes an Electronic Active Differential, as part of the advanced computer-controlled drive set-up. For ultimate performance, Project 8’s uniquely tuned version of Adaptive Dynamics includes a new Track Mode.
With its low mileage and gentle road use the car has just had an oil service and requires no further maintenance until its next routine service.
The Appeal
This is not your everyday sort of motorcar. It has huge amounts of performance and technology. With nearly 6oobhp, the 200mph Project 8 is the most powerful road-legal Jaguar ever, and quite possibly the ultimate driver’s car.
It’s not purely about the drive either. It looks spectacular. Probably why it picked up the coveted Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper Trophy when it made its debut.
On road or track you just know that this car will take whatever you ask it to do in its stride and have plenty left besides.
JBR Capital, an independent finance provider dedicated to high end vehicle finance, listed this car as a future classic to buy in 2021.
With a limited run of only 199 cars, it’s already a classic and thus will no doubt prove to be a great investment as well as an incredible car to own and drive.
With Jaguar confirming recently that it will be all-electric by the middle of this decade, we will probably never see its like again – and there’s no better way to define a future classic than that.
