Description

This is really lovely Saab. Totally reliable, looks great, drives beautifully and is the most pleasant 4 seater convertible you could hope for on a sunny family outing.

I've had the car for a couple of years and it's been a great weekend car for Sunday trips around the Peak District and longer weekends up to the lakes.

Mechanically the car needs nothing. It starts sharply every time and the engine is smooth and quiet, comes to a steady temperature and seems to use no oil - also a great heater for winter runs with the roof down. The gearbox is a pleasure with no unexpected noises or whines - the whole car drives like a car half it's age. Suspension and steering are smooth and free from unpleasant noises and the car is on matching Bridgestone tyres with plenty of life left in them. I'd be happy to take this car on a European holiday.

The electro-hydraulic roof goes up and down quickly and smoothly and is in good condition for it's age, with some areas of wear but no rips or holes. There has been some re-sealing around the glass rear window and the rear window heater works.

The car also has it's plastic hood cover and bag which has been lost on many of these cars, but really finished off the look of the car with the roof folded.

All the electrics etc work as they should

The bodywork is straight and looks great as in the photographs (which were taken in May 2023). There are a few minor scuffs and scapes on the bumpers and there is minor bubbling on the edges of the front wheelarches which have been stable and not progressed in my ownership (less than thumbnail size). Underneath the car looks in excellent shape with no signs of any previous repairs.

The interior is very 80s/ 90s grey velour, all in good condition as are the carpets - made in the days when everything didn't need to feel stiff and firm, the seats in this car are very soft and comfortable, making this a great long distance car. I bought this car as I wanted a convertible that the whole family could go out in (I've got a Lotus Elise, but that's my selffish car and neither my wife nor daughters are very keen to go out in it - and we can't all get in it).

As this has 4 comfortable seats and reasonable wind protection with the roof down it has been very popular with my family as my weekend transport.
Overall it's a really pleasant car to cruise around in and a very useable classic. The 2. 0L 16V engine has decent performance and can sit at high motorway speeds all day long, whilst still being quite economical.
