Description
1928 Hadfield Bean 14/ 45 two seater roadster.
Found in poor condition with no body work. The chassis has been stripped, new road springs and bushes (front), new king pins and bushes. All brakes have been refurbished, steering box overhauled, new brake rods (where necessary). Back axle stripped and checked (visually). Radiator recored and repaired. Engine stripped, refurbished with new valves, cylinder head skimmed and refitted with new gaskets. Fan assembly reconditioned with new bearings. A new clutch fitted and a reconditioned starter and dynamo. Gearbox has been checked over with a new control and fuse box. It has new or refurbished lamps and instruments. New, reconditioned speedo and cable. Stainless exhaust, 5 new tyres and tubes, reconditioned fuel tank, new fuel lines, new electric fuel pump and filters.
The two seater body has been rebuilt, it was originally fitted to a WO Bentley 3 litre, using a 3 litre bulkhead, screen and blade wings. The Bean has the same wheelbase as a 3 litre WO. The car has a reworked vintage Bentley bonnet with new catches and handles. It has a new bench seat and body cards in leather and a bespoke dashboard, new carpets and rubber mats, period flexi steering wheel.
WO Bentley had great affection for Bean cars and admired their engineering skills, he mentions Bean cars in many of his writings, and so thought it fitting to fit ex WO body and wings etc.
I have 50 years experience as a motor engineer and I have spent 22 years saving this magnificent car. It runs well with good oil pressure. A small amount of personal adaptations may be needed to suit a new owner. Now in my 70’s with 2 new knees stop my continuation with the car. Lots of spares come with the car and a detailed, history file.
