Registered 04 07 1961, this was my third Panther and it arrived in bits, with a Brown Buff Log Book. It was subsequently restored from the crank cases upwards using the best components available from the Panther Owners Club (POC), who offer an incredible breadth of resources and skills for Panthers. You Weill notice the engine is 1952. So the bike has a dual identity but not with a disorder. The bike engine from 1952 is a replacement and identical to a 1959 M100 engine in every detail.
The rebuild included:
Brand new main bearings.
A roller bearing crank conversion from the POC expert (basically indestructible).
New (standard +0. 00) slipper piston and barrel.
New valve guides and valves.
New bearings and bushes engine and gearbox.
Heavy duty clutch centre (POC mod).
Oiler pipe for inlet valve. (POC mod).
Extra clutch drive plate (POC mod).
New bearings - wheels.
New SS rims and spokes (Chris Wyldes, Leeds).
New S/ A assembly.
New tyres and (dual) seat.
Rupe's Rewires - full rewire & 12V electrics.
Provision for indicators (see photo).
Reconditioned dynamo and magneto (Paul Dunn).
Ammeter registers charging as OK.
Reconditioned speedometer.
This bike has not been properly run in or ridden since its restoration. This is why the speedo reads 171 miles. That is all it has done.
Change of circumstances and a right leg problem means no more Panther riding and great difficulty with such an emotional parting with this entire labour of love and detail. The bike has almost entirely been resting for a few years since completion of restoration in 2016. Now, however, it needs to be ridden and used as it was intended and it will get this from the worthy purchaser. This Panther is a 'rider's Panther' which will go down well in the POC (a riders club).
It rides and handles especially comfortably and well because it has a swinging arm and dowty forks (which are infinitely preferable to Panther forks).
I CAN PROVIDE VIDEO OF THIS BIKE STARTING RUNNING AND CHARGING THE AMMETER.
