This car has remarkably low mileage for its age - 54k miles for a car built in 1994 does not come around very often. I purchased it from a friend - it belonged to her grandmother from new - so it has never before been sold on the open market.
Starts first time, every time and drives like a dream. In the 7 years I've had this car, I've only had one mechanical problem - a head gasket leak in Jun 2020. I had the head skimmed to repair this and have pics of this work if required. Since then no mechanical problems to report. I put new tyres on in 2017.
I have the original service history in the car's logbook from 1994-2007, plus details of all services undertaken by me.
It's never had a problem passing MOT, which is next due in Feb.
Externally, this car does need a little love and restoration to bring it back to mint condition. There is some minor to moderate body damage - a minor accident led to the bumper becoming cracked through under the front left headlight, and there are a few scuffs to the rear too. There are a couple of rust spots emerging in the rear wheel arches and the paint has a few dings and light scratches in line with its age. All four wheels have some surface scratches (the original owner was not a super-careful parker).
The interior, however, is borderline perfect. The leather seats are all clean and complete with no cracks or damage, as is the leather in the doors. The original carpets are all still in place and while showing some wear commensurate with age, are still in fine condition. Walnut inlays to the dash and doors are unmarked with flawless lacquer. Rear seats have had such little wear the condition is like new.
You'll love the luxury touches on the inside of the car too. Switch the engine on and an automatic arm brings your seatbelt forward. On a hot day, open the electric sunroof and enjoy the fresh breeze while you drive. The Blaupunkt stereo sounds deep and rich, although you will have to dig out your old cassettes if you don't want FM radio. I used this as an opportunity to revisit a lot of music from my younger years!
This model has a really substantial boot - tons of space for everything you could need. It also comes with a few original and period items - an original Mercedes-Benz tool roll, warning triangle, a little vacuum that plugs into the cigarette lighter and of course, the spare wheel. Carpets in the boot are clean and undamaged, a couple of minor marks commensurate with age.
Overall, this is a really lovely example of an iconic car that drives beautifully. This beauty of a car originally belonged to a good friend's grandmother, who bought it from new and drove it minimally. It matched her husband's - he had the saloon, she had the coupé.
After she passed away, my friend (who doesn't drive) inherited the car and it went into her boyfriend's name. A few years down the line at the end of 2016, they split up and she moved overseas at which point she sold it to me.
I cannot accurately put into words the unalloyed joy of driving this car. It has a gorgeous weight to it that, combined with the lovely soft suspension gives you the feeling of driving some sort of land-going yacht. In spite of being quite large for a coupe, it handles beautifully and I've driven and parked it comfortably throughout London as well as enjoying it out in the countryside.
At its heart, this coupe is the dream weekender car - perfect for scooting across the country, but also comfortable enough to cover serious distances without ending up feeling like you've been vac-sealed into a lunchbox by the time you arrive.
There is still so much life in this beautiful car and so much vintage luxury to enjoy. I once met a guy who worked for Mercedes-Benz while scuba diving in Thailand who told me 'you have a beautiful car that will run forever' and I am inclined to believe him. Truly one of the last generation of great Mercedes.
