BSA A65 Lightning for sale. Built in late 1971 , first registered 1st Jan 1973. Matching original frame and engine numbers. Dating certificate from the BSA owners club . In superb running order and looks a million dollars.
It has been completely rebuilt over this winter with more than £3000 spent on new parts. A full written and photographic log has been kept of the rebuild . I have restored many bikes and cars (and a lorry!) over the years – this is my 4th A65 rebuild and in retirement now teach classic vehicle apprentices.
It is for sale now as I have reached an age where I have realised my knees are demanding an electric start. (It has high compression pistons) .
New wheels and tyres from Central Wheels, all new chrome, new fork stanchions and seals, all the electrics work properly including ultra bright LED headlamp conversion and much more.
These oil-in-frame A65's were much maligned principally for saddle height which for later models like mine was reduced with a different seat base. They were one of the first frames designed with the new CAD computer at Umberslade Hall. The handling and balance is notably better than the older models.
This bike was first registered in Leith, Scotland and as far as I know has lain unused since 1983. Mileage is unknown - the bores are unmarked with new +20 thou high compression pistons. The valve seats are also unmarked and seal perfectly. The bottom end has no untoward noise and it runs with a crisp bark. This engine has done very little mileage since a complete rebuild . I had the original V5 logbook dating from 1977 and a mass of receipts old and new .
