Built on a Mercedes-Benz 409D chassis and OM617. 93 non-turbo 5 cylinder 2998cc diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Excellent condition throughout. Ready to go touring – needs nothing. Professionally fitted Gaslow refillable LPG system with a mix of adapters for international use. Additional Propane bottle for back-up. All original unmarked interior. The bathroom is immaculate with all original Hymer accessories incl. the original Hymer shower curtain. Recent professional cleaning of all soft fabrics - no stains or marks anywhere (photos show some stains to driver's carpet from wet feet, now cleaned). All original blinds with fly screens - recently serviced/ adjusted and working as they should. Original painted aluminium exterior, a few light marks/ stains here and there. GENUINE UNEXPECTED REASON FOR SALE.
We purchased this in 2022 after a 30, 000km tour of South America in our old VW Splitty. The VW had become too uncomfortable and cramped and we wanted space, and above all, reliability. The S660 was the obvious choice – loads of room, exceptional quality, few things to go wrong and based on a chassis/ engine combo widely used throughout the world (making parts supply in remote locations a little easier). We were in Uruguay at the time so the VW was shipped back to the UK and I followed soon after to look for a Hymer. In July 2022 I found what I was looking for, a very low KM, unmolested example that still sported its original beige and brown interior. Immediately after purchase, I started preparing and upgrading it before shipping it to Uruguay for our onward journey to Ushuaia – South America’s southernmost point. Before we had a chance to ship the Hymer to Montevideo, the mother-in-law became ill and our plans were kyboshed. Since then we’ve kept on top of maintenance and carried out most of the upgrades that we wanted to do before leaving (Gaslow LPG, Entertainment etc.) Since it doesn’t look like things will change shortly, and we won’t get to use the Hymer as intended, certainly not in the medium term, it’s up for sale. Seeing the Hymer parked up in the UK, enduring yet another winter really makes me sad. It’s about time that someone else uses it, hopefully, as we intended. Available to view in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The original unmarked interior with 1980s styling makes this motorhome quite exceptional. Despite 35 years of use, the fixtures and fittings are in the same condition as the day they were fitted. The 5-cylinder diesel engine starts without hesitation and will outlive most things on the road, needing nothing more than an annual service. Super cheap to maintain and run. Lots of space, sleeping for 6.
