Description

For SALE £24, 875. 1998 Alpine White Land Rover Defender 110 300 Tdi genuine County Station Wagon. Guaranteed low 75k mileage from new. USA EXPORTABLE. Matching VIN and engine numbers. V5 present in my name. Factory original Rayleigh cloth trim seats and also factory fitted tow bar with working electrics. Part service history.

New MOT, with minor advisories that are now all fully addressed, valid until February 2025. Fully valeted inside and outside.

Originally sold by Town and County, Land Rover Aberdeen, Scotland 26 years ago and still has the very first leather keychain, the genuine handbook and most surprisingly the original Town and County stickers, when it was first sold in 1998. Despite its age, this 110 is surprisingly still sporting its original Alpine white paintwork from new.

This 110 County Station Wagon is a very fine example, well-sought after, a great investment as it’s an appreciating Defender. Pretty genuine overall, unmolested, well-looked after and maintained to the highest standards through the years, compared to the others out there.

Last year factory production batch of the 110 Defender 300 Tdi engine, before transitioning to the Td5. The 300 Tdi has been considered by Land Rover purists and enthusiasts to be the best engine that Land Rover have ever produced, as bullet proof engine reliability, delivers smooth power, great fuel economy, much easier and simpler to work on with the engine.

This 1998 Defender 110 has just undergone a nearly nut and bolt sympathetic restoration to inspect, repair and install better, newer, more durable parts and above all protect the overall chassis structure inside and out, its electrical components and engine, thus, prolonging the Defender’s lifespan for years to enjoy.

The bulkhead have had some small sympathetic and nicely done repairs from the usual weak spots around the footwells, the air vents and around the brake master cylinder/ servo mounting area. But overall it is strong and solid with some surface rust that will go away once paint correction is done.

The original chassis has been fully stripped, inspected and remedial works carried out on the rear cross member and the offside chassis outriggers that was previously highlighted as failures from the MOT in 2009 and 2019, respectively. These areas are now beautifully repaired and strengthened to address and fully sort out the previous MOT advisories, hence, prolonging the longevity of the Defender structurally. Then the inside and outside of chassis has been thoroughly cleaned, dried, rusts removed using wire wheel then fully protected with Lanoguard anti-rust protection for longevity purposes.

This recommissioning could have been a complete nut and bolt restoration but the original 300 Tdi engine was left untouched considering that the original engine has only done genuine 75k miles (backed up by online MOT history) since it rolled off the production line in 1998

Hence a comprehensive inspection carried out and the engine has been found to be still in perfect working condition for its age. And surprisingly no engine leak noted (although last time mentioned of an “oil leak” was 2009 and 2016’s MOT advisory, respectively, but none ever since noted). Credit to the previous owners who’s religiously maintained, serviced and cared for the vehicle to the highest standards through the years.

Mechanically the engine really starts on the button and is sweet as a nut! Runs and drives and stops really well. All gears functioning and engaging properly, as well as the High / Low transfer box. The bonus Roamer Overdrive also works very well complimenting the overall driving performance.

So preventative measures were done to the 300 Tdi engine to protect and prolong its lifespan. New Dayco ancillary drive belt tensioner and belt installed at 75k miles, upgraded heavy duty LOF clutch and crankshaft seal installed. New water pump, gasket and bolt set also installed. The vacuum pump has also been replaced. Standard hose kit was replaced with heavy duty and high performance silicone intercooler hoses. Full engine serviced, including transmission, gearbox, and transfer case fluid changed, radiator coolant renewed.

New TRW OEM brake and clutch master and slave cylinders and new brake and clutch fluids. Brake copper pipe lines completely renewed. Radiator thoroughly cleaned, flushed and new radiator coolant replaced. All electrical system inspected, tested and are functioning properly.

The Defender 110 comes fitted with a ROAMERDRIVE DEFENDER OVERDRIVE which is a BONUS (costs over £2, 000 parts and installation!). This overdrive is a simple modification yet improves the performance, fuel economy and contributes to a much quieter and more comfortable long distances travel under motorway conditions, thereby, making it a more pleasurable experience. It also reduces wear and tear on mechanical components. The Defender, although 26 years old, remains in a very original and unaltered condition overall, but with subtle yet useful additional features by the former keeper having the Defender 110 been used as a work horse vehicle.

It comes with genuine Brownchurch galvanised roof rack and a latter addition of a removable chequered plates on top of the two wings, the side valance and the the rear quarter panels. All can be removed to revert to the original configuration should one wishes so.

Also an additional FULL MANTEC INTERNAL rear windows metal mesh guard protection grille, two front Terrafirma spot lights and two rear LED floodlights, etc., adding extra functionality to this already very versatile 4x4, thereby making the 110 even more practical and utilitarian.

But overall the alpine white paintwork still is looking great from new, although with some light blemishes and discolouration brought by the elements, could benefit from light polishing to bring further its gleam and shine back.

The body in general is straight with a very small battle scarred age related dent on the front passenger wing and some slight aluminium oxidation on certain parts, particularly on the bottom of doors, much worse on the rear tailgate door.

The front, second and rear door skins are generally in good condition although with some minimal aluminium oxidation specially the rear door. The door frames have some corrosion, specifically worse at the bottom part of the second doors and would benefit from bottom frame repairs and or replacement.

The seatbox are in remarkable condition although with some surface rusts present in the interior compartments but solid overall. The original front, middle and rear flooring paint are also in good overall condition with slight surface rust and minimal aluminium oxidation.

But overall the body and paintwork is in excellent condition for its age and elegantly clean looking being alpine white, albeit, showing some signs of age and patina being 26 years old, adding character, ruggedness and utilitarian appearance to this legendary Defender. But hey it’s a classic Defender after all!! Perhaps it could do a full repaint inside and out but personally, it will just ruin its originality as it’s indeed a rarity in today’s classic Defender market finding a clean, original and unmolested example.
