Description
I bought this Marlin on a whim to re-commission as something to do after an operation in October. It has a Vauxhall Omega 3 litre V6 and has done approx. 14, 000 miles. The current speedo shows nearly 4000 and the MoT history shows it had a speedo change at just over 10, 000 miles.
Over the winter I’ve replaced the cambelt, poly bushed all the front wishbones, renovated all the brake calipers, replaced the brake fluid, replaced the seats and carpets, replaced the headlights, mirrors, front indicators. I also replaced the front dampers and springs with GAZ units and have put four new tyres on it. The chassis is also really good.
The paintwork is a high quality job but there are a few scuffs and there is a little bit of blistering around some of the hinge bolts on the bonnet. It still looks good, but my plan was to run it for a while and if I got on with it then do some paint. I was intending to retain the Bugatti French Racing Blue as it is quite striking and paint the bonnet panels the same.
There is a cosmetic crack in the fibreglass rear tub by the driver’s door but that would be a very easy repair. It comes with a tonneau cover with press studs which is very waterproof.
It's on SORN but ready for an MoT. I’ve driven it up and down the tarmac bridleway we live on, it’s very fast (nearly 250hp per tonne and very torquey) and it sounds fabulous. But with it’s Brooklands aero screens and no side panels it’s a bit too back to basics for the 60 year old me!
Hence the sale. We live out in the country and I’d have to insure it to take it for an MoT. I can’t see why it would fail (other than headlights will need setting), and any prospective buyers are welcome to try it out on the bridleway. It steers, stops as it should and the clutch, gears and engine are all excellent.
The car was factory built and interestingly was used in Marlin’s publicity literature.
I’ve retired, I seem to have accumulated too many classic cars and need to sell three to get the numbers down to a sensible level! Hence the Marlin needs to go. A great car with near 250hp per tonne. It has an interesting history as it was factory built and appears in the Marlin sales brochure of the time.
