Description
The original car was a 1932 box saloon. When I bought the car from a Norfolk farm in 1997 the body was completely shot and beyond economic repair, so I decided to re-create an Ulster bodied racing car. The engine, gearbox and chassis were re-built and set up by Pigsty Engineering. The aluminium body was built by Rod Yates, from Sussex, number 61. My intention was to race the car in the 750 series but my nerves got the better of me and commitment to children, there just was not enough time. I have a full set of racing wheels and tyres along with a set of more traditional road tyres for potterring about. The engine has a Phoenix crank, racing cam, SU carburettor, oil filter and electric fuel and water pumps. It is surprisingly quick especially with the racing wheels on, but just as happy to potter about along the country lanes. Photos show the car with the silver racing wheels and the black more traditional wheels. I had immense joy building this car and when I finally got it in on the road it always attracts a lot of attention. Having at first planned to paint the car, keeping it as polished aluminium makes it so much more distinctive and only requires polishing once a year. The car starts on the button and with the electric water pump it keeps nice and cool in hot sunny weather.
