Description

HBR44 was returned to the factory in the early 60’s to have the Le Mans engine modification kit fitted. The car has also been fitted with an alternator and a larger-than-standard radiator. 'HBR 44' was acquired in the early 1960s by Ivor Jones from Durrington, who was told by a previous owner that it was not exported to Australia, contrary to what the accompanying BMIHT certificate states. An engineer by profession, Ivor Jones spent some three years rebuilding the engine and kept the Healey until 2006 when his friend, renowned marque specialist Gerald Stevenson, carried out a 'ground upwards' rebuild using original panels. The car subsequently passed to Colin Brangwin, a subsequent uk collector, then the chairman of the HSCC and the current owner. During the last 11 years the car has been maintained by Ou Rouge Cars limited who modified the car for FIA events. Some of the upgrades include competition springs front and rear, competition front axles, competition brake shoes, competition tillet seat and frame, fitted but currently removed, competition front and rear anti roll bar with uprated mounts and bushes, competition rebuilt shocks, plumbed in fire extinguisher, rain light & roundels, competition exhaust & lightening throughout the car including a Le Mans air induction kit with plaque bespoke to the M model. The car also has less dished pistions to increase the compression ratio and a high lift cam. Also a lightweight starter motor.
The ideal entry into historic racing including Mille Miglia or Le Mans Classic.
FIA papers valid to 31/ 12/ 2029. A fantastic example of the ever popular Austin Healey 100 series. The fore mentioned work carried out means it is a gateway to some of the most prestigious events in the world including Le Mans classic, Mille Miglia, Tour Auto and the Goodwood Revival. However the car is extremely useable and enjoyable on the open road making it an ultimate all rounder.
