Description
BSA Rocket 3 built in May 1969 and exported to Italy direct from the factory, authenticated by the TR3OC certificate. Imported back to the UK at some unknown date and rebuilt by the previous owner who then registered it with the DVLA in 2019.
Unfortunately I discovered his rebuild wasn't to a very thorough standard.
This has been completely stripped and rebuilt by myself since purchasing it in late 2020, with all engine machining carried out by Modus Engineering of Crowborough (see the machining photographs).
* The cylinders have been rebored, the crankshaft reground and dynamically balanced, the head reworked with new valve guides and new valves which were then fitted with oil seals.
* New pistons and rings have been fitted along with new mains and big end shells.
* All engine and gearbox ball and roller bearings have been renewed along with new seals.
* New oil hoses fitted.
* The front forks have new stanchions with new bushes and seals. Steering yoke has been rebuilt and adjusted.
* The clutch basket has been machined & rebuilt by Clive Blake with a new clutch plate, bearings and pull rod.
It has now covered nearly 700 miles since the rebuild.
* The electrics have a new wiring loom, Lucas style indicators have been fitted, a Shindengen voltage regulator, Boyer Bransden electronic ignition with vintage Lucas 6v coils, and a new battery last year permanently maintained by an Optimate.
* New brake shoes, cables and speedo/ tacho cables. Speedo and tacho both have been rebuilt and calibrated.
* Swinging arm removed, cleaned & inspected, lubricated and refitted.
* New inner tubes fitted last year
* Mark 2 exhaust pipes replaced with new Mark 1 versions (there's only about 15mm difference but it matters).
* Three new Amal premier carbs fitted. Chokes fitted to two outside carbs only for ease of handlebar control.
* Electronic automatic chain oiler fitted, along with RAM ball mount and a dual output USB charging socket.
* Morgo oil pressure gauge fitted.
After some recent health problems it's dawned on me that I no longer can handle and kickstart this bike, so it needs to be ridden by a new owner.
The price is a lot less than what I have spent on it and is set to be fair without trying to recoup my costs. The engine machining cost over £2k alone.
Feel free to ask any questions, and viewing of this bike is highly recommended. This has been completely rebuilt, run-in, oil and filter changed, the bike is sorted and is now reliable and ready for any outing
