Description
This is a Citroen special based on 2CV running gear, with a bespoke chassis and body (designed by the renowned Richard Oakes). Only 68 were produced, so this is a very rare car. Built to a very high standard by my dad who was a mechanical engineer and properly registered in 2000, with a nice age related plate from the donor car. The speedo is from the donor 2cv and reads just over 99, 000, however, I estimate the car has done less than 20, 000 miles since the build; look at the MOT history on the GOV website and I also have a spare speedo with just over 20k miles on it.
Prior to putting the car on the road, my dad refurbished everything , including rebuilding the engine(later and higher power 602cc) and gearbox, which are still in very good condition; It's just been fully serviced , with a new battery, fuel pump and rebuilt later Solex twin choke 18/ 26 carburettor.
The bodywork and chassis are in very good condition; there are just a few stone chips here and there but it doesn't detract from the overall look. It has Lumenition electronic ignition, a detachable perspex windscreen (I'm 6'2" and the airflow is over my head) , full tonneau and side covers, rare spare wheel, detachable steering wheel( this makes it really easy to get in and out) , pannier mounts, luggage rack and 12v aux socket . So it is set-up for longer trips.
It easily passed the MOT, with just a couple of minor advisories (slight oil leak from the oil pressure gauge pipe and a front tyre; both have been dealt with), and I have the build documentation and manuals. My dad built the car after having many classics and both he and my mum enjoyed their many trips with the Citroen Special Club, including some longer ones into Europe and even the odd use as a wedding car. I was gifted the car many years ago but kept it at their garage in Bath, as my dad enjoyed looking at it and talking to people about it when he was no longer able to drive it; hence the low mileage between MOTs and some years there being no MOT. I brought it up to Scotland around a year and a half ago and have been recommissioning it. It is now running very well but I have my own classic car and only have space for one, hence the reluctant sale of the Avion. Please contact me if you wish more details.
