Description
Commer VC flat bed truck in 'barn find' condition for restoration. Perkins 4. 236 diesel, four speed manual gearbox, single speed rear axle, plated at 7. 5 tonnes gross. Asking £2750, happy to consider offers.
This is a local Dorset truck which spent much of its life on two farms in west Dorset. It's been in dry storage for many years but I'm not going to get round to doing it and it's time it went to a good home.
Condition is generally good for an unrestored vehicle of this age. The cab needs work (see photos) but is basically solid and fairly original including headlining and original trim. The body is a replacement (from a Bedford) and will need refurbishing and fitting to the chassis.
The truck was driven in to its current location, albeit some years ago. The engine turns smoothly by hand and compression can be felt. The clutch is free, the gearbox and axle appear functional and the truck rolls and turns. i haven't tried starting or driving it, preferring to leave it to the new owner to recommission as they see fit.
There are some spares with the truck, including a set of 8. 25 x 20 tyres on wheels, two sets of 'COMMER' lettering, etc. Note the Harvey Frost cranes and other items on the back of the truck are not included in the sale but are available by separate negotiation. This is an interesting truck, and rare compared to comparable lorries of the era such as the Bedford TK. It needs work, but less than many and should make an interesting vehicle to show or use, or as the basis for a classic horsebox, camper etc.
