Description
1972 Dennis D series FE fire engine (pump water tender) with Dennis body, ex-Hampshire Fire Brigade, known history, in 'barn find' condition. Asking £2750, happy to consider offers.
Perkins T6. 354. 4 5. 8 litre turbo diesel, five speed manual gearbox, engine driven power take-off.
This was in very good bodily and mechanical condition, having come direct from Hampshire Fire Brigade and having been converted by them from the original Jaguar straight six petrol engine, but it was parked up due to a broken piston ring and will need a piston, liner and gaskets. Parts are readily available. Bodywork is sound with minor marks and the wood frame appears good. The cab is likely to need repainting and the brightwork rechroming, and a new ammeter is needed as the original was stolen.
It comes with a few spares including the original 'blues and twos' and Hampshire crests. The Bailey 'wooden 105' ladder is not included in the sale but is available by separate negotiation. Ex- Hampshire Fire Brigade, unusually with a Dennis body; it's more common to find Hampshire appliances with Hampshire built bodies. Full known history right up to the present day. Converted from Jaguar 4. 2 litre petrol to Perkins 6. 354 turbo diesel in the mid-1980s for HFB by Peterborough Engineering Ltd (Hindle Power). Sold to the current owner in the mid 1990s.
With no structural work or welding evident, this would make an ideal light or rolling restoration or recommissioning for use for shows, as an unusual wedding or event vehicle , or even to be put back into operation as a private fire appliance.
