Description

GP Madison, Bufori ( VW based ) Boat Tail Racer
Update as per questions received it does include full wet weather gear, hood and side screens and a travel cover to match the seats
For Sale a GP Madison. These were designed by Neville Trickett, who was inspired by the famous boat tail shaped Packhards and Auburns of the 1930’s. They were produced by GP with firstly VW and later Ford underpinnings from 1978 to 1990.
A quick google of Neville will show how admired he was for tuning and designing cars over many decades

Registered as an historic vehicle no tax, and no MOT as the changes (I. e kit) were carried out over 30 years with documents to prove it. However this car does have a current MOT, with no advisories for peace of mind, for me it’s less than a 100 pounds a year to insure it.

Unlike many small volume UK cars that no longer exist, Madison continues today as GP sold the rights to these cars to their Australian importer and then it was further sold on to an Australian business family where the cars are continued to be produced under the Bufori name, now costing in excess of 6 figures, they are hand built and very sought after.
I first saw one in Singapore where I was living there and was immediately stricken by its beautiful lines.

This particular model has had very low miles and ownership, A 1970 VW, Beetle, for the base vehicle was acquired in the late 80’s and the car was then professionally built for Mr Owen its first owner who kept the car for nearly 20 years until 2009. In this time it covered around 16000 miles. The history folder shows the neatly written correspondence between the garage, the factory and the owner. It outlines the full breakdown of parts etc used to build the car. ( No computers or email in 1990) parts include Morgan wing top indicators and petrol cap.
The car was then acquired ( I am informed from the relatives of the original owner) by Mr Purser and owned for a period of 2 years and 9 months before being acquired by Mr Hussain, a West London businessman, who kept the car for nearly 10 years.
Under his ownership the car had a regular maintenance and service checks at Carrera Worx a specialist classic car garage in west London. Carrera Worx confirms the vast work carried out over this period including a full engine rebuild in 2015 @ 18000 miles.
Mr Hussain is also always happy to chat about his ownership.
I acquired the car from Mr Hussain in 2021

Vehicle condition, the mechanicals as shown by the lack of MOT advisories and low milage in the last 20 years are excellent for a car of this age, the full engine strip down less than a 1000 miles ago should mean many more years of trouble free motoring.

The rest of the car has a fantastic patina for the age, with sumptuous leather and simple dials. Enjoy the simplistic drive no distractions from beeps and flashing lights. There are no major cracks or chips in the GRP. The car has been loved. and is 54 years old, underneath and 34 on top so please do not expect a showroom shine all over. For its age etc I would rate it a strong 8 out of 10.

Rarity and Pricing
Only 4 of these have been sold since 2020….. get googling
2k for a body shell
4 k for a car that had not moved in 30 years and needed a full restoration
5. 4 k for a runner but no history
8 k for a nicely sorted, but painted( never paint colour GRP) maroon one, with the original wheels and custom seats removed.
7495 seems a fair price for such a nice honest documented example, I promise you’ll feel like a million dollars driving it
