Description
This car is a replica of the iconic Lancia Stratos in Stradale form, fitted with roof and tail spoilers finished in dark metallic grey that complements the stunning red bodywork.
Built from new in right hand drive, it rides on aluminium copies of the “Coffin Spoke” wheels that are 8 inches wide shod with Michelin tyres.
The car is fully trimmed with red carpeting, fluted white headlining and tan seats that are an inch wider than the original Stratos for better comfort. Even the capacious boot is fully carpeted in black.
The engine and 5 speed manual gearbox are taken from a 1990 Alfa Romeo 164 3. 0 litre 12v donor and fitted midships in the car with a mechanical gear linkage that works beautifully. The Bosch fuel injection system and ECU has been transferred from the donor car and has proven to be entirely reliable.
The suspension on the car follows the original Stratos very closely with a McPherson strut, reversed A arm and leading link at the rear. The front consists of an upper wishbone with Nylon inner bushes and an outer rose joint connected to a modified Fiat stub axle (per the original). There is a lower transverse arm, Nylon inner bush and Fiat ball joint outer with an adjustable leading link. Geometry is fully adjustable for camber, castor and toe in with bump steer eliminated by careful setup.
Cooling is provided via a bespoke aluminium radiator with twin fans and there is a cabin heater too.
The dashboard is a copy of the original fitted with period Veglia Borletti instruments and Fiat switchgear, as per the original, sitting behind a replica of the Stradale steering wheel.
The car is a retired older demonstrator that covered the majority of its mileage in its early life and was featured in magazines and adverts under its cherished number plate (A3OHF). Used sparingly in recent years it was originally built in 1988/ 1990 when it was fitted with a Lancia Beta twin cam drivetrain that was replaced with the iconic Alfa Romeo Busso drivetrain it retains to this day. Serviced regularly in house at Hawk Cars by Gerry Hawkridge it runs beautifully. The sound of the Busso motor is (slightly) silenced through a stainless steel system designed to imitate the original Lancia set up but last a lot longer. The car has a fresh MOT and will be sold with a cam belt replacement at full asking price.
This car has been correctly registered with the DVLA and the correct identity is shown on the V5 document.
The car is now offered for sale as Hawk Cars are building the next generation of HF3000 to a specification that differs slightly from this car. With a four year waiting list for a kit currently this offers an opportunity to acquire a car with all the hard work done already at a price below the current build cost.
With experience shipping cars worldwide we are able to help with export but viewing is highly recommended.
Serious enquiries only please. The Hawk replicas are known for their stiff chassis design and the unstressed high quality fiberglass. The chassis has a torsional rigidity of 6000 ft lbs per degree allowing suspension set up and spring rates to be used that were specified on the original Stratos but rarely used due to being the cause of windscreen breakages. The suspension, whilst stiff, is long travel and fitted with adjustable anti roll bars front and rear making this a practical and comfortable car for long distance touring, a quick blast down county roads or a track day outing. The huge boot on these cars will swallow enough luggage for two people for a couple of weeks holiday.
