2012 (62) KTM SMT, 15, 900 miles
I’ve owned the KTM for just over 2 years. I bought it as I wanted to test the water with a bike that was capable/ comfortable over distance and could be used to tour, as at the time I wasn’t quite ready for a full blown adventure type bike. In case you’re unaware these bikes were extremely well specified from the factory, with adjustable WP suspension, Brembo brakes with ABS and Marchesini wheels. I have to say it’s been brilliant, it’s comparatively light and nimble, plenty fast and torquey enough, (including when two up) whist offering decent luggage capacity, weather protection and all round practicality. My only reason for selling now is that I’d like something with more luggage capacity with longer trips in mind.
Shortly after getting the KTM I passed it to by local KTM dealer who are superb, with the instruction to go right through the bike, sort anything that needed attention and complete a full service including valve clearances. All they found in need of replacement was a small section of radiator hose, so that was done and coolant replaced (Putoline Ice Cooler).
I have a small collection of bikes and this one has only been used for the purpose I got it, and only then during the summer months, receiving a full panels off clean and ACF50 treatment each time on its return. I usually buy bikes on condition and this one was no exception. There is no corrosion or tarnishing evident, even on any of the fixings, and no scratches/ scuffs/ scrapes. I’m confident in saying you’ll do very well to find a better example, or one that’s better specified. See points to note below
