Description

Restored in 2014, purchased by me in August 2022. Since owning I have fitted new rear Hagon shock absorbers, replaced the stator, new battery, fitted rear rack, heated grips.
It has a twin disc front end, the frame has been powder coated. Runs well. I have ridden it in the 2023 Spanish Moto Piston rally 5, 000 curves and other UK events.

"The 1978 Yamaha SR500 is a classic, single-cylinder, air-cooled motorcycle, a street version of the Yamaha XT500 trail bike, known for its simple, timeless styling and a powerful, torquey engine, with a dry-sump oil system using the frame as an oil reservoir and cooler.
Here's a more detailed description:
Key Features:
Engine: Air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, 499cc engine with a dry-sump oil system.
Design: Simple, classic lines and a standard riding posture, reminiscent of 1970s Universal Japanese Motorcycles.
Performance: Known for its powerful torque and a good spread of power, with a top speed around 90 mph.
Frame: Semi-double cradle frame uses high-strength steel
Kickstarter: The original SR500 had a kickstarter, a feature that some found unusual for a street bike in 1978.
Origins: Derived from the XT500 trail bike, but designed for road use.
Dimensions:
Overall length: 2, 105mm
Width: 845mm
Height: 1, 155mm
Weight: 158kg "

A lovely old style single cylinder motorcycle, I bought it to do the Moto Piston rally which it really suited. Videos of starting and running available - just ask. Lots of paperwork included and some parts. The mileage is 13+k on the speedo and the mileage before the 2014 restoration was, I believe from past MOT'S, 49k.
